Nature & Parks

The Garden of Cosmic Speculation is a unique sculpture garden that showcases math and science-inspired works. It is only open to the public for five hours once a year, during which visitors must stick to designated paths in order to preserve the structures of mounds. Despite being busy, there is ample parking and friendly staff available to assist visitors. The grounds are impressive on a grand scale and offer interactive exhibits that are fun and thought-provoking.

** Only open one day a year for 5 hours **- brilliant sculptured landscapes- Must stick to paths to preserve the structures of mounds (plenty of people to tell you off if you don't)- Worth going to see but wouldn't return on a yearly basis.

Perhaps my expectations were too high but I came away a bit under whelmed with the garden. There was no Wow moment. If you've visited Jupiter Artland then this is a water downed version. It was well organised. Volunteers kept you right with parking etc. I liked the live music. Would like to give it more stars but its just okay.

Grahame L — Google review

Busy but not crowded. Ample parking and helpful very friendly staff. The grounds were impressive on a large scale. Interactive, fun and thought provoking. Best suited to the more mobile as a lot of areas are without paths.

My first experience here and I am hooked already. I have had terrible pains and tension from ptsd. Stressed and feeling on edge. Just one treatment here and I feel like I can think again. A chose a massage and a stretch session and she even did some yoga with me at the end. I used to be a yoga teacher to Texas and needed the motivation and love to feel free again. This was an amazing and needed experience and I recommend to anyone!!!

Second visit to the Thai Massage Room & Spa today and it just gets better and better. Noi has a wealth of knowledge and experience which offers so much reassurance when having treatments.Noi has been helping me with problematic neck and shoulder issues, and I can't recommend her enough. The treatments are so relaxing and Noi listens to what works for you and adapts the treatments accordingly. Todays luxury oil, deep tissue massage, hot herbal compress and stretching was incredible. Noi really does perform magic, and I've felt so relaxed for the whole day afterwards.Looking forward to my next visit. Treat yourself too sometime with Noi, I'm sure you want regret it.

Finished off our long weekend trip along the South West coast of Scotland with a massage from Noi (1 hour each) and it was so worth it! It was my partner's first massage and he loved it. Noi was lovely and had a brilliant energy about her, she definitely knew what she was doing and I would recommend anyone who would be in the area to stop by for a treatment. She also sells authentic Thai curry pastes as well with recipes to use, which I'm looking forward to making :) thank you Noi!

Georgie T — Google review

My second visit today with Noi, and I cannot express how wonderful both treatments were. Coming away feeling on top of the world. I have already booked my next one. I'm sure you will not be disappointed if you've never had a Thai Massage. Thank you Noi

Great experience. I went with severe shoulder pain. Noi was very informative and constantly reassured me. The massage therapy I received helped ease my pain.Hoping to return for a relaxing massage.

I have an old shoulder injury and Noi has been amazing at getting more movement back in the shoulder. My pain has been reduced considerably. A terrific woman with amazing hands that work wonders. I would definitely recommend.

I have been going to see Noi now for nearly a year and I’m a regular user and I can’t recommend her enough. She is so good at what she does and has helped me through a very difficult year after losing my adored hubby, she seems to just know what I need, even if I don’t know.I have tried lots of different places for my massages over the years but in my opinion Noi is one of the best.

Debbie S — Google review

Best experience i have ever had. Relaxing and friendly and massage really helped my lower back pain. Also got extra treatment added onto try out the new treatment.

Katrina M — Google review

This was my third massage with Noi and was amazing again. I feel fantastic. I had the shoulders neck and head massage, which was yet again brilliant and interesting. Noi tailored the treatment to my needs. She is also a lovely person, kind and funny and I feel very safe in her capable hands.

Karen M — Google review

Noi is fantastic!! I first visited on my birthday as a treat having never had a Thai massage before and I've never experienced anything like it. Noi paid attention to what my body needed and didn't just follow a standard routine like I've had with other massage experiences in the past. It was relaxing and also a great work out for my joints and muscles. I loved the techniques she used. I visited again yesterday and she has done wonders for my sciatic nerve.Thank you Noi I can't wait to visit again.

Rhyanna D — Google review

I went for my first ever massage with Noi, and it did not disappoint. I suffer from lower back pain and the traditional Thai massage made my whole body feel so much better. Very friendly service and I will recommend to anyone who needs a bit of pampering or muscle kneading. I will definitely be returning ☺️

Marion M — Google review

Today, I had another amazing Thai massage experience with Noi. There are closer places I could go nearer home, but I choose to travel the 96-mile round trip. Noi is very talented and works extremely hard to make your treatment experience extra special. I feel lucky to have this special relationship with Noi and look forward to my next visitPeter

Peter S — Google review

I visited Noi a few years ago and the experience was so intensely amazing I can't even put it into words. My body felt like heaven afterwards, and after weeks of some awful life stressors, I got my first nights sleep that night after being treated to a Thai massage from Noi. Have a look at her stories also from her life growing up in rural Thailand, she's an inspiration, a positive and uplifting woman. I have since visited a few more Thai massage facilities closer to home since then....but noone has come close to the expertise of Noi. Honestly, I can tell her knowledge is just so much deeper. She knows your body, she knows how to stretch you in ways that make you feel like someone is gently pouring warm liquid into your very soul. Can't wait to visit again. Also - the cup of herbal tea afterwards whilst you regain yourself is just an absolute 10 star touch!Ps: the room is absolutely beautiful ❤️

Noi, what can I say! She really is fabulous. An expert masseus, she really knows her stuff. I couldn't be without a regular trip to see Noi! Simply the best. 💖

I have been a customer of Noi’s for almost a year, and I can honestly say she is amazing! As a yoga teacher I often practice yoga 6 times per week and Noi’s Thai massage is an excellent complement for my yoga practice. Noi is so friendly, and she really puts you at ease. She makes sure you are comfortable, and she listens to any issues or requests you may have. Noi goes above and beyond to ensure your experience is personalised to your body and its needs. Her knowledge and experience are superb, and her friendly and fun personality make it an unforgettable experience.I usually have a Luxury Thai Massage and every time I leave feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. Any stiffness or tension in my body is gone and I feel the benefits for days after. If you are looking for a relaxing and unforgettable experience, I could not recommend Noi enough. Noi’s Luxury Thai Massage is the best massage I have had, and I feel lucky to have such a wonderful local masseuse!

Just had another amazing treatment. I had luxury Thai body massage with Pa Karma. What a treat! I’ve had Thai massages from Noi before always amazing , but this time had the Pa Karma and it was just perfect. As a holistic therapist from Newcastle upon Tyne myself I can appreciate the skill and dedication Noi brings to these treatments. Definitely worth the travel! Thank you Noi.

Castle

Sights & Landmarks

Threave Castle is a 14th-century fortress perched on an island in the River Dee, close to Castle Douglas. This tall structure with a bell for summoning the ferryman was constructed by Archibald the Grim and later inhabited by Margaret, Lady of Galloway. The castle offers splendid views of ospreys, which can be seen through telescopes provided by volunteers. It also boasts lovely walking trails with ample opportunities to observe wildlife along the way.

Acces to the castle was not available at the time we visited. We walked down to the pier to get photos....saw deer and buzzards. Well kept walkway.

David T — Google review

Lovely walk with Kites and Buzzards overhead. Quiet hides and plenty of lovely benches to sit and think. Very helpful volunteer at the main office and I believe that boat trips to the castle are available when volunteers are available. Sadly not when we visited but that didn’t spoil our enjoyment

Katrina G — Google review

Ospreys on the best visible through volunteers telescope, a wonderful walk with wildlife all round. A little disappointed we couldn't visit the castle due to boat being off but a good reason to return another time.

Laura N — Google review

Great place to visit with the family, great dog waking places. Deffenly recommend to anyone and everyone. Unfortunately it was closed when we when but loved the walk around.

Maxine B — Google review

Unfortunately, this is the third Historic Scotland site I have visited in Dumfries within 4 days that has been closed, with the same signs and no hint of when it might reopen. It's a nice walk across the nature reserve to see the castle from a distance but ultimately it's currently a walk with a view of a castle. It's a shame you can't even go on the boat and walk around the outside, even if you can't go inside.

Elizabeth B — Google review

Lovely walk to the castle on a flat path. Couple of muddy bits but easy avoided. Few benches around for a picnic. If you're a bird watcher the osprey nests here and there is a couple of hides on the property.

Pauline M — Google review

Lovely views and a nice area to walk around, the castle is closed currently with lots of work being carried out around the site, wod lkve to go back when it is open again. The Osprey viewing platform gave a good but distant view of the nest, and we managed to get a glimpse of one of the birds as it returned after feeding.

Phill B — Google review

First time over to the island and close up to the castle. Great to have the boat running again. Such a wonderful trip to make with the grandchildren. Thank you to Lewis for running the boat and getting us safely over to the island and then back again after we had done some exploring. Brilliant!

Peter H — Google review

First time visiting and would recommend. Excellent facilities and wheelchair access. A gentle walk from the car park brings you to excellent views of the castle. Beautiful flora and fauna as we change from summer to autumn 🍂

Linsey M — Google review

It’s taken me 4 years to get here and, like just about every ancient building around, I turn up and it’s closed. At least there’s not a load of scaffolding wrapped around it, I suppose. It’s a pleasant circular walk around the reserve to get there, but even better if you park up at Threave Gardens and walk across. I’ll return for the ospreys and bring some sand and lime cement to hurry repairs along a bit.

David B — Google review

Great place to visit. Couldn't cross over to the castle due to out of season closure, however , lovely circular walk around the area. Free car park.

Peter E — Google review

This is a fantastic castle that sits on its own island there is a free car park that leads onto the walk to the castle which is 0.5 miles away the footpath is very well maintained and could be accessed via a good mobility wheel chair. There are various hides for bird watching mainly the ospreys that nest nearby. The castle itself is closed due to the ongoing HSE reviews that seem to have closed almost all historic Scotland sites which I don't agree with as no work seems to be going on at any of them that I have seen but the views are worth while as are the ospreys however I didn't see them on the day we visited there is a visitor center at the car park.

Mark N — Google review

Threave Castle was a formidable fortress in medieval times. Now it is a beautiful ruin. It's the only castle I know of where you need to get to on a boat. All you need to do is ring the bell and the ferryman will come and ferry over to the island. A visit to this Romantic is highly recommended.

John W — Google review

A fun experience being taken over to this imposing castle by boat. It's a short walk to get there and there's an interesting alternative route with good views to get back to the car park, making this a circular walk. It's an easy walk (8km return, some of it along an old railway track) from Threave Garden to the castle too. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well.

Kat — Google review

Castle on a island only reachable by national trust ferry boat. Kids will love it. Also saw otter. Falcon flew over. Good short walk around nature reserve on same site. Osprey viewing in summer.

Graeme M — Google review

Now just a square keep in the middle of nowhere this once mighty fortress stands on an island. There is an 800 metre path to the castle from the car park. We visited on a dry day but I imagine it could be muddy and slick in the wet. The final approach to the castle is by row boat. (there are two strong young men available for the task). A wooden bridge allows access across a dry moat and into the bailey where a flight of steps leads to the first floor entrance. From here one can descend to the ground floor. Access to the higher floors and the glorious view was denied to the visitor at the time of our visit because of the nesting Ospreys and Red Kites. Even so, Threave is well worth the time to visit. DOGS are NOT allowed on the island. Do take a drink with you in hot weather.

Marilyn H — Google review

Nice castle but currently out of order set in nature reserve with many black slugs on the trail but children had great fun with disabled wheelchair access .toilets very good

Covid 2 — Google review

Up to Threave with the drone for a few Ariel shots.A decent walk with some stunning scenery and history

Dean W — Google review

The castle was still closed when we visited but it was a lovely day for a walk and we saw the Osprey nest and the male osprey waiting for his mate to arrive from Africa! The ladies at the osprey viewing platform were very helpful. I may have seen the nest without their help but I definitely would not have spotted the osprey! Well worth a visit.

Agnes S — Google review

Amazing castle. With boat trip includes! (It's on an island!!)Cant express how much fun visiting was. Nice walk to it. Boat cross and we got to see lots of wildlife. Castle was lovely to explore. Staff were ace. Only £4.50 per person.

Chocolate factory

Tours

The Cocoabean Company is a family-run chocolate factory that offers a delightful experience for both kids and parents. Children can participate in chocolate workshops and then enjoy free entry to the extensive play area. The facility also features indoor soft play, outdoor play areas, and chocolate-making classes for families to enjoy on rainy days. Additionally, visitors can indulge in delicious snacks and meals while also having the opportunity to purchase chocolates, making kits, and souvenirs from the on-site shop.

Really enjoyed our trip to The Cocoabean Company. The outdoor play area is great, our children (3 and 5 year olds) spent hours playing. There are also a nice indoor soft play and chocolate making classes (something to do on a rainy day). We had delicious scones for our midmorning snack and really good lunch. Nice little shop to buy chocolate, chocolate making kits and little something for the family. We would definitely recommend it!

Alina P — Google review

This is my second time visiting. We had a lovely time at the family workshop and also within the play area. It's great value for money with the items you get to make and the kids are able to make a lot of mess, too! Fun for all ages.

Vahri I — Google review

This should be advertised as a child's play and education centre. As an adult nothing to do. There was a huge play area with a small cocoa building are.We tried to make purchases in shop and the restaurant area but it was difficult to get the attention of the young girls behind both counters, we were only people in shop and restaurant. I even had to call and ask if the ice cream stand was open as the girl was not responding to our calls.I must say the man mowing the ĺawns was very nice and helpful, turning his mower off to tell us we could park close to the entrance. We left feeling disappointed after the interaction with the two girls in shops.

Fred B — Google review

Wow! What a fun day out. We went in and our class was really quiet. There was 3 other people, including 3 of us. The staff are so kind and the facility is amazing. The outdoor playground is really well done, and has lots of slides and moving bits. They have an inside soft play and it was really good. It is quite high so adults can go in. The class was so interactive, and their cafe was amazing. I would definitely recommend going if you can!

Callan C — Google review

Visited briefly as there was a large school trip visiting. Slightly not what we had expected as it’s mainly a huge play barn for children with the addition of being able to create their own chocolates. We were offered the opportunity to make a bar of chocolate for ourselves howler as this was £24:95 each for about 40 minutes we declined … rather more aimed at the young ones!..full disability access throughout and disabled parking spaces available

Her I — Google review

£21 entry seemed a little steep but great value for money. The staff are friendly and great with the kids and big kids alike. You make 3 different chocolate treats with lots of variety. You also have access to the indoor soft play and outdoor pirate ship play areas for the time you're there. The cafe was nice with the standard assortment of chocolate treats and drinks. It was great fun for the day I would highly recommend.

Ryan P — Google review

We have just finished the chocolate workshop with Sarah. Absolutely brilliant for kids old and young 🤣Your welcome to eat the chocolate and sweets your given to make your creations as your given plenty. Sarah was very engaging and asked about our favourite sweets chocolate etc and smiled the whole time.Keep the moulds so you can make your own chocolate again at home between us we got a unicorn a car and a bunny .There is also a large castle and pirate play area outside with a maze inside the castle ,panning for "gold" , slides and loads more. There's a play area inside aswell.Cafe food portions are huge and fairly priced

Michelle P — Google review

Expensive for a chocolate session but we'll worth it as you make several things and take them home. The grandkids absolutely LOVED it! Session about 45-60 mins long. Play area indoors and outdoors. Lovely cafe serving very good quality food and not the usual menu. Wonderful cakes. Needless to say we purchased a selection of chocolates! Delicious.

Michele W — Google review

Great fun for the kids, our grandchildren loved it, and we had fun too. The only downside was probably the price of the food and drinks, that we found quite expensive. It was almost £100 for 4 of us for making chocolate, so worked out a lot when we included food and drink as well.

Colin F — Google review

Went today for our sons birthday today £23 per child, worth the money, they got to make 3 different things, a lolly, chocolate bar and you got to pick what your other chocolate wanted to look like ours did a love heart, dinosaur and a rabbit. The girl who showed and help them what to do was lovely. The soft play is really good, unfortunately they didn't go outside due to the rain but looks really good so we are going to go back when it's warmer. Very lovely staff. Would highly recommend.

Gemma D — Google review

Fantastic day out with Grandkids. Chocolate factory was brilliant staff were great kids loved it.Soft play was fabulous. And the outdoor area was fab too .Place spotless cleanTheir was only one negative was the cafe very poor service staff didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing waited ages for food to be served 1 item then another meal 15 minutes later. Maybe short staffedFood was good though when it did finally arrive. All and all a brilliant day out

Carolyn R — Google review

Had a brilliant time doing a chocolate workshop with our little one, there was lots of delicious white and milk chocolate to try, on top of getting to make and take home 3 x items. It was a really fun experience and worth the money. As an added bonus, there is an absolutely superb soft play area and cafe, you could literally spend a couple of hours here easily, again adding value to the money spent on the workshop. There’s also a huge outdoor play area/frame, unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to try this out due to the weather but it looked fantastic. Very appealing place for families, would recommend.Well worth a visit!

Mel B — Google review

Kids loved it, plenty of time spent and worth the drive and price. Soft play. Outdoor play. Cafe slightly expensive, but you could take picnic for outdoors

Alison H — Google review

Booked the chocolate factory for 2 adults and our 3 year old. We loved this part- we got to eat lots of melted chocolate and make a chocolate shape of our choice, a chocolate bar and a marshmallow creation this lasts about 45- 50 mins. This part I would give 5 stars.Afterwards the soft play inside was quite big this is included in your price - to a toddler it does look amazing - unfortunately to an adult - at the top there a few very dark tunnels lots of kids crying being scared of the dark, bolts were showing and mats were slipping about. The outside park this was brilliant very large pirate ship bridges, slides and a zip slide. Benches to sit around the park too. There is also a little bit where you can do some gold panning - no bad points here just that they're alot of part of the outside half finished - chairs blocking a part that was leading to a very dangerous unfinished site....chairs that kids could have got past - don't feel like this was cordoned off properly for a work site. So I would advise not letting your kids run ahead if your going out the back doors to play area. The very expensive cafe £8 for a cheese panini that really wasn't up to much. They got my husbands order wrong due to the girl behind the till before finishing my order turned to her collegeue and started to talk about how nice her hair was...... although they did apologise and were quick to correct it and offer a free coffee - I just felt that it's a bit on the pricey side for the food. Advice would be take a picnic! As much as I've put some negative here it is a great place to visit and loved the chooclate making part and we came away smiling and my 3 year old didn't want to leave.I would visit again.

Dawn P — Google review

We visit to let the kids burn off their energy while we, as parents, can sit with drinks and relax. Prices have jumped this year, but then everywhere has. Overall we love the place, but my wife ordered the Hunters Chicken Loaded Fries, with chicken, bacon and BBQ sauce with cheese over fries. The chicken was spicy southern fried, which she doesn't like, no bacon and not much BBQ sauce. Very disappointed.

Wayne F — Google review

This place is absolutely amazing, so much to do inside and outside, the play areas are outstanding, the food is outstanding and the chocolate experience is outstanding too. You could be here all day no problem.

Lois H — Google review

This place is amazing! Seemed a bit pricy but the kids had so much fun and it's brilliantly set up. Indoor soft play, chocolate workshop, lovely cafe and huge outdoor play area with pirate ships and slides galore. Would highly recommend!

Peita-Anne P — Google review

We took 2 of our grand kids today, to start with we thought £21 each was expensive but after watching them make there own chocolate bar Plus a couple of other things it was money well spent. They had a great time.there is also loads of other things for them to do.a great morning had by everyone. We will be back with our other grandchildren when they visit.

Gordon R — Google review

Lovely little place. Nice choc and the play area is amazing, especially outside. We didn't do the chocolate making but I saw a few doing it and it looked pretty cool.

Jessica C — Google review

Great place for the kids, great soft play and outside there is so much to see and do and making chocolate is super fun too. Staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place is spotless. My only problem is the food prices, they seem to have doubled since last time we went! When your charging £15 for a fish finger sandwich then you’re not making it that family friendly!

A must stop, if not stay. Such beautiful countryside to explore over and above the exquisite gardens & stable ateliers & businesses. You’ll smell the stunning scents of Tracy’s soaps from miles away.Definitely be back for more walking & cycling. Families will enjoy the adventure playground.

Really nice place to visit even when the Castle is Closed. We visited on a closed day and did the Blue Walking route with the Dog. Really lovely relaxing walk and I have to say the best way marked route I have ever walked. Most marked routes are absolutely useless but these routes are very well marked and mapped out. Toilets are clean and there is a nice cafe and shop. We brought some plants. We will come back and have a look around the castle one day. Well worth a visit.

Matt H — Google review

Fabulous place to visit with or without the kids .Wonderful walks and beautiful views, the shops were very quaint. Loved Mums shed bought a fabulous bespoke hanging ornament. The owner was there making all sorts of mystical magical things , she was very helpful and inspiring.

Natalie B — Google review

This is an amazing space for families to have fun. The gardens are spectacular and the play area is fun. There are mountain biking and cycling paths plus walking routes for those who prefer to walk. There is a cafe and small businesses on the property as well. This is really a beautiful place in Scotland!

Robin H — Google review

First visit today but not sure there is enough here for us to want to visit again. Nice looking castle but you have to book in advance to go in. You have to buy tickets and pay to go to the Gardens and Play area too but we are not of an age where we want to play so didn't go in. Very few people around and nobody seemed any the wiser. The cafes were both in paid areas but I feel if the coffee shops/cafe were easily accessible the place would pull in more people possibly. We chose to go for a walk and follow a couple of the routes round and up to the lochs. Nice peaceful walk but not a soul in sight. Quite hilly walk but was nice too. We left feeling a little disappointed and confused to be honest and went and found lunch elsewhere.

Catherine H — Google review

What a stunning place! The gardens are magnificent. Lovely paths through woodland and looked like a fun adventure playground for children. We didn't go inside the castle. We bought sandwiches and coffee from the little cafe near the adventure playground to takeout and enjoyed eating them in the woodland.

Rachel H — Google review

Everyone knows Drumlanrig from the signposts on the M74, it's wellworth the detour, not just for the castle (which is amazing, especially the tour) but for the gardens and forest walks around it. Teashops great too, with good food and service.I don't walk well and the guides ( who gave such an enthusiastic tour), helped by providing a chair in every room. The tour leaves the best till the last room, worth doing to find out what it holds.

Steve D — Google review

A reasonable visit, lots of forest walks and bike trails. However, nothing really outstanding, all a bit mediocre. We did get some great views.

What an awesome place. Great for reactive dogs, assuming you don't go at peak holiday time. So much space, fabulous woodland walks and stunning gardens. Staff very helpful too.

Andrea K — Google review

Rainy day but still beautiful. Lovely walking the grounds and had the opportunity to buy some nice plants propagated from the castle gardens for reasonable price.

J L — Google review

Highly recommend a guided tour of the castle - the knowledge of the guide, the impressive collection of art and amazing gardens and tea room are all worth a visit. Also a gift shop with fridge magnets.

Peter G — Google review

Excellent visit. Really friendly staff, and the castle tour was fascinating, with pictures, furniture and history really brought to life by our excellent guide, Avril. Enjoyed the castle tearoom too. Will definitely visit again

David S — Google review

This castle is splendid built in an idyllic environment and the view is magnificent, the garden is awesome ,this area covered by nature is scenic and the old sycamore trees add more information.

Paul P — Google review

Beautiful castle with amazing gardens. You can buy ticket to visit the castle (although it’s closed sometimes due to filming operations) and to visit the gardens and kids park. There’s also a coffee shop.

Gustavo C — Google review

A beautiful stately home with lovely walks and gardens, a very nice tearoom and an adventure playground for the kids.Inside on the tour is an art collection, furniture and antiques.

Peter M — Google review

Amazing place with something for everyone. Sadly didn't get into the castle as too hot for the dog in the car but the grounds are exceptional. The staff were friendly and the playground was amazing. It was very quiet when we were there

Lynda M — Google review

Travelled quite a distance to find it was closedCame to visit the castle - the gardens and cafe were open but found that the castle itself was closed.Google said it was open and we were not informed by staff upon purchasing our tickets that the castle was shut.Stalls in the stables and the gift shop were also closed (bike hire was open)Not overly happy with pur experience

Aidan J — Google review

The gardens are beautiful in May with the rhododendron in bloom. From formal to woodland to walks in the forest you will find something to enjoy.

Cliff D — Google review

Amazing gardens and great little cafe. Very impressed that at this time of year there was plenty visitor parking without charge and all the gardens were open, even though the house was closed. Nice little café with a stick grown produce for sale outside and the children’s play park.Absolutely stunning building and beautiful grounds.

The Museum of Lead Mining in Wanlockhead, located northwest of Moffat, offers a fascinating and family-friendly experience. Visitors can explore a real mine, recreated miners' cottages, an 18th-century library, and displays on lead mining and other minerals. The museum provides an engaging look into the history of lead mining and is worth a visit for those interested in learning about this industry.

Driven past the sign on the M74 for this many times, finally decided to visit. Was not disappointed. Great little museum, friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend the guided tour. If you have to weight, there is a good circular walk along the steam.Would come again!

Sounds amazing but we didn't go in as the tickets are a tad expensive at £22 each. Its a season ticket, but, why would you want to go back again in the same year ? Will perhaps take a day trip next year to the village, spend time walking around and do the mine.

Laura B — Google review

Haven't been into mines yet as was off season when we went but the scenery was amazing it felt as if you travelled back in time, this is a must visit place if you like picturesque scenery, good history with plenty of plaques to explain its history. Just amazing place 😍

Gemma M — Google review

It was very good, the museum part was very informative, and we went on a guided tour that included a walk into one of the mines, as far as a stope (dirty big hole in the ground), rhenium down to some workers cottages, a pumping engine, and to the 2nd oldest subscription library in Scotland. The guide was very knowledgeable, he was quite local and therefore difficult to interpret if you were foreign. As we were heading home from a holiday in Scotland we didn't have a lot of time to explore the local area, but there were more trails available to take.

Matt H — Google review

12 August 2022. Probably not for everyone but we all thought it was worth the trip . The mine is fairly level and narrow and you do need to duck down in some parts as you walk about 300m into the hillside. However you do have a helmet and lantern each so perfectly safe. The temperature is stable all year at around 10° and there is moisture dripping in parts which will be worse after rainfall so you may need a coat most times. As we went during a heatwave I was comfortable in T shirt as there was little water dripping from above. The guide was very good and after the mine you get taken to the old miners library then back to the museum and shop. The teashop does a limited lunch menu but very pleasant inside or outside.

M G — Google review

Excellent place to visit with loads of history. The food from the cafè was really great as was the coffee, and they have Oat Milk amd gluten free items. All the staff I spoke too were very enthusiastic about the place. Dogs are allowed inside the cafè within a designated sitting are which is surrounded by historic facts. There are public toilets seperate to the Cafè.

Andrew C — Google review

A brilliant day out, as simple as that. This is definitely worth a visit, the guided tour is brilliant and informative. It took us just over 2hrs for the full tour.

Alistair M — Google review

Well, what can I say...... loved it. I thought that museum was one of the best I have been to, in terms of the location, the tour of the mine, exhibition explaining the geology, the café and then the gold panning. It's all in one place. The staff that took the tour lovely people, eager to answer questions and explain things about what had happened at the site. Always courteous and polite. Really lovely people. The staff at the museum, were also courteous, polite and very bubbly. You can tell that the staff all know each other well and like working at the museum.I loved the mine tour and would have loved to see more- eg where the tour stops about a 1000ft into the mine. I believe they are trying to open more of the mine which is great news. The lovely walk to the beam engine and then to the cottage. The library was fascinating and a real eye opener to what education did for the community. The tour was sympathetic to the mining community, at the same time realistic about the families trying to make a living in what were harsh conditions above and below ground.I have nothing other than, it was good value for money, the weather assisted and made for an all-round brilliant experience.Over and above this the narrow gauge railway from Leadhills, using it as transport to the Glengonner mini station to then walk down to the museum is my tip for anyone interested.

Alan ( — Google review

Definitely worth a visit, it may be a little out of the way, but lead mines are where the lead is! Don't just stop for a quick look round the interesting museum, take the full guided tour into the mine (sensible footwear) and learn from the enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide about life down the mines , learning also about our industrial heritage. The tour also includes a visit to the miner's subscription library, step inside and be truly surprised.... fascinating. Go visit and enjoy, the rain was pouring down when we went but it did not spoil what was time well spent.

Ian K — Google review

I called just in time to catch the last tour of the day, I joined a few others to make a small group which was ideal for the mine tour. Tour also included a short walk to the cottage which had period displays, really well put together. The museum is worth a look too.

Peter N — Google review

Took the tour with my young daughter yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Davie and Jackie, our guided, were friendly, interesting and informative. Access to the old mine was much further in than I remember from years ago when we last visited with kids.

James M — Google review

Did this as a spur of the moment trip with the kids on the way back from York. Worth every penny. Cost half the price of similar things in york but so much more time for your booking. Guides were both friendly and very knowledgeable. Cafe was great and very reasonably priced. We expected to spend 2 hours. Ended up there 3. But could of stayed longer if we had the time. All ages enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone for something different to do.

Nick P — Google review

A fantastic experience to discover.Easy to get to and the roads are actually very well kept. We popped into the visitor centre and got setup with a guide and a couple of other people visiting. The mine was fantastic and Davie was a great guide full of knowledge and wisdom. The second part of the tour was fantastic too as we got up to the cottages and village library. Highly recommend taking a day trip up to it. Cafe was excellent and I recommend the home made soups. All the staff were great from the tour guides, the cafe staff to the shop keeper.

James — Google review

An interesting look at 18th century life in Wanlockhead, a hardscrabble Scottish mining town and the highest village in Scotland. The tour originates at the museum, which provides a good overview, before proceeding into one of the mineshafts. Walking in a cold, dark, cramped tunnel makes one appreciate how incredibly tough the miners were. After the mineshaft, you take a short walk to see the 1870's era beam engine, the most complete example in Britain, followed by miners' living quarters and the miners' library. The guides and museum workers are excellent and made for a fun experience. Due to the rural location, I strongly suggest getting tickets in advance so you know they'll be open.

Tim F — Google review

Had a family day here today, we tried the gold panning experience. £9.50 per person and it was fantastic! We had a great time and found a little bit of gold each. Highly recommend a visit! Very friendly and helpful staff a lovely tea room and an interesting museum.

John M — Google review

great place to visit so much history

Liz L — Google review

We visited with our 7 year old. Fantastic day out. Tour guides are so knowledgeable. We had fun going down into the mine for around 30-40 minutes then a short walk to the miners cottages to see how the minors lived. Then a walk up a fairly steep hill to the library. The mine sits in beautiful surroundings well worth a wonder round to take in the sights. Words do not do the surrounding area justice just stunning.

Steph — Google review

We chose not to go down into the mine, its pretty wet down there at the moment and two of us weren't wearing the correct footwear. I wasn't feeling the confined space thing either haha but the test of the tour was lovely. All guides are lovely and friendly as is the girl on the tea room which was also a lovely wee place.

Shaz M — Google review

Wished it was my local ... if you're ever in the vicinity, whether it's breakfast dinner or tea..... Food is 2nd to none... and surroundings are just gorgeous... if you're lucky, you could have breakfast with the woodpecker too...😁😁😁

Helen H — Google review

Not particularly cheap but a very interesting tour which my daughter found really interesting with an enthusiastic guide who was happy to chat and answer questions. Small museum and shop on site with a nice tea room to warm up with a coffee afterwards! Well worth a visit and combine with a trip on the narrow gauge railway which is nearby.

Cream o' Galloway Ice Cream Parlour is a working dairy farm that offers farmer-led tours, ice cream-making workshops and a make-your-own-cheese course. The on-site dairy farm is open for visitors to explore, along with four miles of signposted nature trails with wildlife hides and acres of woodland. There's also crazy golf courses available to play. With plenty to offer for all ages, it's highly recommended as a fun day out.

We've had a fabulous day out here. We did the ice-cream workshop where we made some lovely ice-cream but also learned lots of fun stuff. We then did crazy golf which was fun but frustrating 😆 then we got to sample our ice-cream in the parlour with wafers. A really great day out, I highly recommend!

Sylvia N — Google review

We arrived a little before opening to take a short walk around the substantial grounds. Plenty butterflies and Brambles along the paths. The Ice-cream was especially nice with over 20 flavours to choose from and also Dog friendly flavours. The setup is very nice with plenty seating inside and out and lots of parking.A nice detour in our day

In V — Google review

Over priced. Run down. Shadow of its former self.Paid £11.20 for two small ice creams. £12 for 3 people on the mini golf. 9 holes of rotting, falling apart disappointment.Do yourself a favour and drive to Annan and go to Drummuir.

Tony H — Google review

Delicious lunch and fab ice cream.I remember coming here as a child when you first ever opened, and the ice cream still doesn't fail to hit the spot quite a few years laterThankyou

Jenny D — Google review

Stopped to eat our picnic lunch at their picnic area which is in dire need of some attention - overgrown grass and unsteady benches. I remember coming to the place as a child and it being an awesome adventure playground. It has since closed down and nothing more than a small cafe with excellent ice cream with plenty of walking trails. Looks like there is a crazy golf course that also needs major attention. Gutted to see a once exciting tourist stop fall into such dull and sad ways.

Clare — Google review

Wonderful little stop here for some lunch and the best ice cream. All the staff were accommodating and super friendly.

Gemma T — Google review

We enjoyed a hot roll and coffee deal (£5 Mon-Fri 10-12), followed by an ice cream cone, as we were cycling past earlier this week.My OH was keen to go again :-) Unfortunately it was raining today, so we went by car. Another bacon roll and coffee, this time with a delicious scone. If it's a nice day there are lots of seats outside, also activities such as crazy golf.We enjoyed both our two visits.

Barbara M — Google review

Staff are lovely, ice-cream and Sandwiches were great. There are some nice walks. The activities are very run down and they would be as well closing them down and as it brings the place down.Only marked it down, because we paid for mini golf and go carts it was cheap at £4 each but even that felt a little high. The ordering of food was a little complicated.

Mike B — Google review

Visited in a wet day during October break, nice log burner on and seating available (dogs welcome inside, think they have updated their policy as sign outside said otherwise). Had ice cream even though it was not the weather for it lol. Very tasty, but disappointing selection of flavours (maybe about 10). Downside was the staff didn’t seem interested in engaging with customers, or clearing up afterwards. Dirty dishes left on the table next to us even though 4 staff standing at counter doing nothing. Outside looks like good to explore the nature trail and not sure if mini golf was still open due to weather.

Will M — Google review

This place was on our list of things to do while we visited Dumfries.Called in on a Sunday afternoon. We assumed it must have been a busy lunch service as all the tables were covered in dirty dishes.Ordered lunch which took almost an hour to arrive was set down on the table mixed in with the previous occupants dirty dishes. The ice cream was very nice.Very disappointing and extremely overpriced.

Michelle D — Google review

We had two visits here on holiday. Firstly, for an ice cream stop off. We realised that they are owned by Brymor from Yorkshire which is local for us at home. We could see the Galloway flavours and the Brymor flavours so tried the Galloway ones for something new to us. We enjoyed them all. The Gooseberry/Elderflower and the Gingerbread went down well. On our second visit we had booked for the ice cream making workshop. A workstation for 3 of you to make ice cream under instruction, choose your flavour concoction, and make your own label for the lid. Whilst one half of the group had a mini tour of the factory the others did ice cream tasting, then the groups swapped. It was led well and we then were instructed it would be a couple of hours until we could take the ice cream away as it needed to be in the freezer. No issue for us as we were staying locally, other people seemed to opt to stay and have lunch. Something to be aware of before doing the workshop, that you can't take the ice cream away there and then. It was a lot of fun, great experience, not expensive, and we had a great tub of our own home made ice cream. We never had time to do the croquet golf which looked like loads of fun, maybe another time. Also for people on bikes the off road bike trail behind the visitors centre is really good.

Harvey J — Google review

Easy to follow signs from the A75 - it's a little way, tucked away, surrounded by lovely countryside. The farm itself is way bigger than I was expecting with spaces for ice cream or cheese workshops and, of course shops to buy some from. It's a shame that the outside adventure playground is closed for good - it looked like it was an amazing setup. It's well worth a visit and I for one will be heading there again soon!

Nick T — Google review

The staff here are incredibly friendly. The ice cream is delicious and dogs also welcome in most areas. Tea / coffee also served and light bites. There's a dog walk route on site and a mini golf course. This place has the best ice cream for miles...well.. ever in fact! Plenty of parking, small gifty shop, log fire and a lovely furnished restaurant at the back as well. High recommend.

Luke H — Google review

Brilliant ice cream and lovely staff. Loads of flavours and generous portions. Recommended.

Sarah I — Google review

Incredible friendly welcoming service from the loveliest staff I’ve ever met!And tasty food, the cooked breakfast was fantastic!

Iz D — Google review

We've been visiting Cream o' Galloway for the best part of 30 years and seen it develop its various forms over the years. It has the best ice cream anywhere. My favourites are the whisky, honey and oatmeal and the gooseberry and elderflower. They also make their own cheese and they are good too.Lovely nature trails around the farm.Ethically Rainton Farm and Cream o' Galloway are both outstanding and unusual in in the way they farm the land and rear their animals. It's good to see what can be done when we work with nature rather than against it. It's well worth going on a farm tour to see what they do.They run cheese and ice cream making courses. We have done both and did our second ice cream making course yesterday. They are both enjoyable and informative experiences. Also good, freshly cooked food and cakes and obviously the ice cream.Always well worth a visit.

Sam P — Google review

Cream o'galloway is a family favourite. We try different flavours each time we go. They make big tubs to take home and delicious cheese too. There are quite a few tables indoors and the fire is lit in the winter so a fun place to go to warm up after a blustery walk on the beach. There are plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the warmth and sunshine in the warmer months too. Some nice walks nearby.

Vicki C — Google review

We love visiting Cream o' Galloway every time we visit D&G. It's a great place that hold very special memories, and the Ice Cream is amazing.

Lyndsey-Jane L — Google review

It was just a place to buy ice cream and they sell a small selection of other food and drinks on the menu. Ice cream was a tad expensive but it was nice. Wasn’t really what was advertised but worth a visit as they do have a large selection to choose from.

Caroline B — Google review

Such a great attraction for families coming to picnic, play outdoor games and enjoying the farm produced delicious ice cream a but in the colder months - the cafe could be so much bussier and better . There was a welcoming wood burning stove on and very friendly staff- but all we could see was a dated cafe- no menu for cafe (just ice cream obviously on show). It has such potential if the menu board for food was obvious .

Attended a wedding here. Faultless. Great food and service. Setup excellent. Good location with views out to the sea. Plenty of parking. Bar prices reasonable.

We had our wedding at GG’s Yard in July 2024, and it was nothing short of incredible. The venue is truly out of this world, with breathtaking views that made our day even more special. The staff were amazing, offering exceptional service and support throughout the planning process, and ensuring that every detail was perfect on the day.The food and drinks were five-star, with many of our guests raving about how delicious everything was. The bar prices were very reasonable. Our guests commented on how affordable the drinks were, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the day without worrying about overpriced drinks which can normally be expected at wedding venues. One of the highlights of GG’s Yard is their flexibility and the way the staff share their advice and experience. Their guidance was invaluable in making our day everything we dreamed it would be. Many of our friends, who have attended several weddings recently, said that ours was the best they had ever been to.The location is simply stunning, and we often find ourselves wishing we could relive our wedding day all over again. The onsite snugs were fantastic for our guests, allowing us to extend the celebration into a full weekend event. The restaurant, Gather, provided a perfect setting for our pre-wedding meal and breakfast the day after.GG’s Yard will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and we can’t wait to return. We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect venue for our wedding.

Abby M — Google review

Everything about here is absolutely stunning - one of the most enjoyable places we've stayed. We were here for a wedding and stayed in a snug for two nights. The attention to detail everywhere you go is incredible. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

My wife and I had a great time at the venue while attending a wedding of a close friend. The decorations, views and service were exceptional. The staff was attentive and quickly brought out each course throughout the meal, they even ppured the drinks in synchronization. I want to specifically acknowledge Julie B, manager of the service staff during the night for going above and beyond to provide an A1 experience from beginning to end. Sauce from a serving platter dripped on my suit jacket and they promptly took it to the back to clean it. Julie followed up with me over the next several weeks and reimbursed me for the dry cleaning fees making sure that the issue was completely resolved.Thank you Julie and the Lagganlife team for helping to make it a memorable experience!

Brandon G — Google review

Fantastic service and top quality food, only down side was during wedding service no microphone was used and the seating was poor and due to no raised platform for the ceremony it was difficult to see through hats and phones ! The function area did have a microphone for the speeches but I'm not sure if the organiser explained how to get the best quality sound .Otherwise 10 out of 10 👍

Just visited ,its been booked for a family wedding and can see why the bride and groom chose this venue ,absolutely gorgeous....so looking forward to the wedding ,obviously we know nothing about the rooms etc.But the location speaks for itself..everything totally spotlessly clean 5 star hotel toilets and bar area ....lovely....

We attended a family wedding here. The venue is beautiful, service second to none. The food was delicious even though I had the dairy free version due to allergies. Jo the wedding planner has such an eye to detail and is there with a smile sorting out your every need.

AMAZING! We recently held our wedding at GGs and everything from start to finish was fabulous and gave us the most wonderful day.All our guests commented on how special the venue was from the interior, the views out to the solway and especially the quality of the food - so many comments from guests that it was some of the best wedding food many had experienced. We had guests travel from all over Scotland, England and Wales and the day was well worth everyone's travel efforts!!There are plenty of accommodation options on site (equally as beautiful) and in the wider area. We had 130 guests over a busy bank holiday weekend and everyone found somewhere 😊.We only viewed one venue (ggs) and knew instantly this is where we wanted to get married. Communication throughout the process was great and all queries answered quickly. The venue is quite rural, but the team even at the end ensured sure everyone got to where they needed to be!Big thank you to all the team on the day!!! 🥰If you're thinking about getting married here you won't regret it. 😊

What a venue! I absolutely loved shooting this wedding at GG's Yard, and the setting was totally stunning. There's so much variety over a small distance, and no matter the weather it looks amazing. The guests had a great time, and having so many places to stay all within the grounds just made everything so easy.

Neil J — Google review

GG's yard was the wedding venue of dreams.Words can’t express how grateful and happy we are to have found them as a venue. Every second of the day was perfection for us.Jackie and Vicki have been superstars from day one with communication, knowledge and helping with anything. When we first came to the venue, we were already blown away by the views but it was our easiest decision made. It was great being shown around, the whole feel of the venue - it gave us the exact setting we wanted to experience on the day. A relaxed but grand feel, a place and where all our nearest and dearest would feel like the hours of driving are more than worth it. It’s such a beautiful place and we appreciate how much love Vicki & Duncan have poured into all the details.I have to give my heartfelt thanks to Zoe & Jo. Zoe has been so on point with emails, answering all the most random questions I asked (as I did all the DIY décor, I needed to know even the most trivial of details) nothing was ever too much or silly, and the responses were always so prompt - so reassuring to have an answer so quickly so I never needed to panic! Jo was our on-the-day co-ordinator and she was just exactly who we needed to support us during the hustle and bustle of setting up the rooms and the wedding day itself. Having someone with her experience and joy, she knew exactly what to do and where to put things for maximum effect. I loved that throughout the wedding, all the suggestions she made were just perfection! How rare is it to have someone who’s on top of everything while executing it flawlessly. She was always wherever we needed her and made it so that I had no stresses throughout, it was more than I could have ever hoped for! The level of service you all offer was just incredible and the best I’ve ever encountered (and of course Pudge loved the fussings over her 😂)It not only lived up but exceeded expectation, and we’ve come away from our stay on cloud nine. Wouldn’t have changed a single thing and that’s all down to everyone at Laggan/GG's Yard making it an incredible day. The main feedback we’ve had is that this is the best wedding people have every been to by a long shot! That’s huge considering that’s from all over England and Scottish side! They keep saying that everything was just pure perfection: from the service, the snugs, the food and drink were exceptional, layout of the venue was brilliant and so many layers to uncover throughout the day. We’re so glad that the weather was so gorgeous for us the whole time we were there - it just made it that much more special.A huge thank you guys again and we will continue to sing your praises everywhere!

Had the pleasure of being invited for a wedding at GGs Yard. Beautiful setting (albeit not a very good weather), staff very attentive and friendly. Food was lovely. Had a really good time there.

The owners of the Laggan estate, Vicki and Duncan, have created the most amazing place for brides and grooms to host their wedding. It’s exclusive use and is perfectly set up so that you and your guests can relax and have the best time celebrating, surrounded by idyllic views of the Irish Sea whilst enjoying the most delicious food and drink in both Gather (the on site restaurant) and GG’s Yard itself - our canapès, wedding meal and evening food were all absolutely delicious 🤤 And drinks weren’t overpriced either which was a nice surprise for our guests. GG’s Yard is absolutely STUNNING inside, the interior is bright and elegant, in fact it’s the most beautiful venue we’ve ever seen! The accommodation comprises a big house, a cottage and several Seaview snugs for up to 50 people to stay, all are standalone and tastefully decorated putting the cherry on top of the cake! The events team were complete professionals from our first meeting until our last dance and they worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the day, especially Jackie who liaised with us continually to ensure our pre-wedding requests were met whilst alleviating any concerns we had, this to a stressed out bride was a god send! And Kerry who was an excellent Master of Ceremonies in the day, keeping me right with timing as best as she could and ensuring our guests were looked after. A massive thank you from the bottom of ours heart to the GG’s Yard, our chefs and wider Laggan team, you all gave us the perfect day 🩷 To couples still looking for a venue, this one is highly recommended, you cannot go wrong!

An amazing place, even on a windy, showery day.Well worth a drive out to. The views from the top are incredible so I'd recommend that route. It's a gradual climb but nothing strenuous.Good footwear advised - walking boots or wellies. Lots of muddy, slippy areas.Come prepared and it's not a problem.Well worth the entrance fee.

DO NOT GO HERE DURING OPENING HOURS! We went here at about 18:00, half the gate was open and we just parked right in and walked about despite a sing saying they were closed. There was 1 other person walking their dog, too. It's a lovely place, but having to pay for entry just to walk around seems like a scam, especially for the price of £7 per adult! We maybe spent 45 minutes there, took some pictures and had a nice time. Honesly, if the gate was closed, I would recommend just hopping it if you can, but it was proped open by a bike lock. I think it's because they offer overnight parking for campers for £10 so they need to keep it open to allow them to leave whenever they like.

This was my second visit here. First time it was pouring and couldn't get a full feel of the area. This time we had beautiful sunshine. The Crawick Multiverse is best described as a gentle walk with elevation, among some lovely landscapes. It's worth reading the info signs around the walk to get some insight as to what you're walking around. We had 2 adults and three kids and all enjoyed the walk. Let the kids imaginations run riot.Plenty of parking, decent admission prices and lots of room to picnic. If you can, go on a nice day. The views are stunning.

5 star attraction in Upper NithsdaleWe spent a wonderful afternoon at the Multiverse just outside Sanquhar in South West Scotland. Although there was some light drizzle at the start of our visit, the skies soon cleared, and the sun shone through. At only £7 per adult with a complimentary map and guide book, this is tremendous value for money. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the day as well. The walks might prove challenging for those with mobility issues and also wheelchair and pushchair users.Certainly a new jewel in the crown for Dumfries and Galloway tourism.

David C — Google review

What I liked is the space and varried terrain. Good for leisurely walks and you can bring your dogs with you too ( there are dog poo bins here ). There is also a wee coffee and snack place, where they sell tickets. What I did not like: the place needs a refarb, it's in a bad state after winter. There are no litter bins anywhere, which is poor if you have a coffee cup to dispose of. Also no places to hide in case of rain, I think a shelter or two would be nice. Overall, and interesting place but with some drawbacks. Price (adult single) £6

Shimurasaki — Google review

£6 per adult / £3 under 16'sDidn't mund paying that for the upkeep of the place. Lovely picnic area and lovely walk. Something a bit different.

Chimene G — Google review

Out of this world landscape features created on an old coal mine. Brilliant concept.Selection of fresh snacks and coffee at the visitors centre. Toilets are clean and information about the mutiverse is presented in several formats.Personally I would like to see the planets of our sun system represented and more plants to complement the features. A few benches scattered across the site will also allow visitors to soak up the stunning views.

Wayne M — Google review

I have to admit to being disappointed by Crawick Multiverse. The weather when we visited probably wasn't ideal as the site was exceptionally muddy and sections of the slopes were so slippery as to be almost impassable. I'm not sure what could be done about this but it didn't help.My main criticism of the Multiverse was that it felt unfinished and incoherent. The 'glittering' pools were swampy and weedy, maintenance of some kind was happening because piles of big plastic pipes had been left right next to one of the stone artworks. There are also massive gravel sections (the main one being around the Milky Way and Andromeda hills) and really quite big roads, rather than footpaths, with tyre tracks suggesting large vehicles were using them. I'm sure a place like this requires extensive upkeep but for somewhere advertised as a space to think and reflect it was all quite jarring and I think the main site at least should be totally grassed over.Still, CM was interesting and thought provoking, plus the views across the surrounding area were epic.

Ollie F — Google review

If you're after something different for a day out then go for a walk around here. It has quite an atmosphere to it. Don't get too excited though, it is just a walk! But it's quite impressive how they have transformed the land here. It was £7 per adult for entry, there is no need to buy tickets in advance. There are also a few parking spaces reserved for any motorhomes wishing to pay a bit extra to stay the night - no facilities except the toilets which I believe close at around 4pm. The lady on the desk was very friendly and gave us a map, they sell snacks and souvenirs too. Also, very dog friendly.

Eilidh B — Google review

Had a very peaceful walk. It is a very interesting and big place. Have good shoes on to climb all the hills as the view is wonderful. Dogs are also allowed, there are plenty of parking spaces and even a space with picnic tables at the entrance. There is a shop next to the parking lot and entry tickets are £6/adult. Only giving 4 stars because I think there is space for improvement...shop doesn`t offer lots of gift options and even if the view is wonderful there isn`t a lot to do. Still worth a visit.

Aleksa A — Google review

We visited here on our way home from the Lake District as I’d heard it was goodIt was a bit different I guess. It was £7 per adult, we took the walk to see the sculptures which were interesting enough, as it was a cooler weather day we didn’t stop to fully appreciate but I can imagine on a hot day here I would take a picnic and enjoy that while exploring the area. The view over Sanquhar was beautifulThe car park can be used for an overnight stay in a motorhome, toilets available which would be great.A small selection of cakes, biscuits, tea or coffee, hot chocolate available from hutThe area is used as a music venue at times which definitely would be great.

Joyce G — Google review

An interesting place, ideal for sunny days and family picnics, lots of hills for children to tire themselves out running up and down. I like the fact the ‘art’ is made from natural materials.Dog friendly, public toilets by the carpark, kiosk selling hit and cold drinks.

B B — Google review

Calm and peaceful walk. Suitable for enthusiasts or gentle strollers - two routes around. A few areas with a steep incline and some loose rocky paths down hill, depending on which way you go around. Wear good shoes!Plenty of good views and interesting rock formations. We were here around 3-5pm on a Saturday. Not too busy or much need to play Hokey Cokey with people on paths.Scenic, relaxing and quiet. Nice place to go and take some time away from things.Reasonable entry price. No physical tickets or gate checks - relying on the honesty and decency of visitors to pay. Refreshments and small snacks available at the ticket kiosk - nice staff member on to explain the layout. Outdoor toilet faculties available also.

Callum B — Google review

Nice for a day out and something diffrent. Certain areas can feel a bit exposed so take some extra layers of clothing. The coffe and snacks at the ticket office are good. Sanquhar is only 5 min away if looking for something more to eat.

Peter C — Google review

If you’re passing near here this is a great stop off point. Plenty of parking, kiosk has snacks and drinks, and you can pay by card. The art installation is impressive and beautiful. It resembles a historic monument. It was a lovely stroll with the dog.

Heather F — Google review

I think they've done an amazing job, converting an old mining area into a visualisation of the multiverse. The views all around of the area are lovely, the art is on an impressive scale. We really enjoyed it, there's a small cafe serving drinks and small snacks.

Alan C — Google review

Nice walk around some land architecture. Dog friendly. Can purchase coffee and small refreshments at the ticket office. Shared toilet also available. Only negative point- No discounts for pensioners or students.

Johnny K — Google review

Brilliant place full of well thought out walks with informative and beautiful art installations that can be walked on and around as well as admired.Be aware not all of it is accessible with pushchairs and wheelchairs and there is a big hill to walk up (well worth getting to the top if you can for the views!)

Stu — Google review

Had a lovely walk around here with my partner, so peaceful and quiet! There was loads of butterflies & dragonflies around too, I wouldn’t recommend for wheelchair users or people with prams unless there are other arrangements that weren’t shown to the public, some areas are really steep to get to. Super pretty though and really enjoyed it, prices are cheap too!

Beautifully laid out. Very friendly staff. We happened to go on a very sunny day, not many shady spots and it got rather hot! Toilets and small refreshment kiosk

St. Ninian's Cave is located in the picturesque area of Physgill near Whithorn, offering visitors the chance to explore a sea cave where St. Ninian is said to have had a hermitage. The stony beach provides a perfect setting for a leisurely stroll, and the surrounding wooded area adds to the natural beauty of the location. Accessible after a short walk from the parking area, this site offers an opportunity for peaceful reflection and appreciation of its historical significance.

Although the cave is closed, you can still see the outside and the one mile walk from the car park is really lovely, passing through woodland and then opening out onto the pebble beach. Well worth a visit.

Lovely place, if u not far is worthy to visit, 2022 April cave was closed due possibility falling rocks but don't worry, still is lots to see around.... car park near by , easy walk to the beach.... recommended....Edit:Just been told by locals this sign about "Closed Cave" is there for years just for Health and Safety, apparently u still can visit a Cave on u own risk.... hmmm....

Przemek T — Google review

Cave is closed. It's more of an overhang than cave. The walk is still very nice, wet underfoot.

Jack T — Google review

£1 to park. A short walk - about 15 minutes? - down a very pretty wooded dene to the beach, and a short walk along the beach to the cave. This is a stony beach so you may need stout footwear or walking boots.Historic Scotland currently suggests that the cave may be dangerous to visit. It's not much of a cave though. There's a beautiful view from the beach. The Isle of Man can be seen on a clear day. No public toilets.

Alison T — Google review

Beautiful walk from the car park, through a beautiful woodland with a stream that leads all the way to the shore and the. A short pebble stone beach stroll to the cave. Stunning scenery and well worth the visit. Decorate a stone and leave in the cave or make a stone pile. Not suitable for people who have difficulty walking on uneven grounds. The entrance to the cave area is hazardous ⚠️

Maria — Google review

On a 'brown sign' day exploring Galloway we decided to track down St Ninian's Cave. After parking at the free car park the walk to the cave through woodland is about a mile-and-a-half. Sadly the cave is currently shut because of falling rocks but the walk there was enjoyable and it was interesting to read up on St Ninian and the impact he had on Scotland and introducing Christianity to the country.

Tristan H — Google review

Great walk from the car park - about 1 mile. The weather on the day was rough but we enjoyed the walk and the waves at the beach. We haven’t met a single person along the route. As previous reviews state, the cave is quite small but still magnificent. Knowing that the cave might have been used a retreat hideout for early Christians adds to the significance of this site…especially on a stormy day like we’ve experienced!

Michał N — Google review

Nice walk to the beach through woodland , muddy in places and not wheelchair friendly just fyi. Beach is pebbles and a bit tricky to walk over, cave access is a scramble up the rocks. Tbh not a lot to look at 😆

Will M — Google review

I don’t know what some folks were expecting and it’s not that long or arduous a walk from the car park (£1 honesty box) at just over 1 mile to the cave. Yes the cave is quite a small and not a lot to see in it other than some stone carvings and artefacts that some folks have left but the walk there and the stony beach is really nice especially on a sunny spring day like we had today. Although the cave is officially closed for H&S reasons it is still easily accessible and clearly loads of folks are ignoring the sign.

Brian M — Google review

Lovely little walk to this placeBut don't follow Google maps to this place as it'll take you to a track in the woodsLool for the parking on the map

Graham J — Google review

One box ticked on my places to visit. A bit muddy in the walk through the woods. About a mile to the cave but soooo worth it. Very spiritual place.

Mandy S — Google review

Beautiful cave, the weather dampened the walk down, but it was still really interesting to see the cave & learn a bit about the history of it.

Heidi B — Google review

Beautiful. Easy to access via a short walk through wonderful temperature woodland.Especially significant if you're a fan of the original wicker man film. The coastal walk to Burrowhead is about an hour and completes that folk horror tour 🔥

Carlie B — Google review

Not really a cave. We had an amazing walk from the campsite and expected a proper cave to explore, unfortunately it is not a cave and it was dangerous to enter due to falling rocks. Not worth 5 mile walk there and back.

Anna A — Google review

Parked in the small car parkAnd walked down the wooded path by the stream , lovely sheltered walk.It opens out onto the bay which is pebbled and then on the right is St Ninians cave.Unfortunately it has a barrier across so you are not allowed into the cave due to falling rocks. The beach is a lovely place to sit and chill.out but the sea was fierce the day we went so no paddling or swimming.

Kim W — Google review

We didn't plan in going here. My Good Lady Margie seen it on sign post. We first stopped at Whithorn for a supper from the chip shop. Then drove up the hill, Margie spotted the sign and we got there. We parked up and then had to walk about a mile to the beach to see the cave. The walk takes you through a wooded area before reaching the beach. If you Zoom in on some of the stones, you will see that people have wrote on some of the stones of their past family and friends which was nice of them in memory of them. Plus with the stones being flat and rounded a few folks have tried to balance some on top of each other. That made it all the more interesting to see this. So it wasn't boring and the walk did us some good. So if your out and about in this area, give it a visit. It will be worth your while. Hope yous like my photos and video. Thank you. We had a real good time together ❤

Robert ( — Google review

Nice walk through the forest before it opens up to the beach.Pebble beach, which leads to the cave but it is unfortunately closed off currently

Gina — Google review

I love visiting the cave and go every time I'm in the neighbourhood. It is about a mile from the carpark, which is at the end of a single track road. Once you get to the shore its amazing. Great scenery. The cave itself is a small one and is covered with memorials and little crosses. There are lots of things etched in the rocks to read.

Galloway Forest Park, situated in the south of Scotland, boasts an extensive 300 square miles of forested terrain. The park offers visitors a chance to explore its many scenic hiking and biking trails, fishing spots, and observe wildlife such as red and roe deer as well as various bird species that call the park their home. Galloway Forest Park also features three visitor centers where one can learn about the vast forests present in this national treasure.

We had a great time at the Galloway Forest Park. It is so vast and there is so much to do there. Me and my family walked up to Bruce's Stone (two of us Nordic walking). The stone was interesting to read up on and there were great views of the loch below. We also walked through the forest to the loch's edge which was also invigorating and picturesque, offering plenty of photographic opportunities. The trails looked good for cycling (we didn't have our bikes with us but plenty of people did). We spent the day there and only really touched the surface. You could easily stay nearby and explore something different each day for a week. We stopped off at the goat reserve and the red deer refuge - both which were great for our daughters and us. Whether you like hiking, cycling, generally exploring or seeing animals up close, you'll have a great time here.

Galloway Forest Park is a hidden gem worth discovering. The drive there is half the adventure, winding through breathtaking landscapes with panoramic views that make every turn exciting. Once inside the park, you're surrounded by a tapestry of rugged mountains, serene lochs reflecting the sky, and ancient woodlands filled with the whispers of history. For hikers, there's a trail for every pace, from leisurely walks to challenging climbs. Mountain bikers will love the exhilarating routes that wind through the park's diverse terrain. Anglers can find peace by the lochs, casting lines into clear waters teeming with fish, while wildlife enthusiasts can spot red deer and varied range of bird species.A highlight of Galloway Forest Park is its Dark Sky Park status, a haven for stargazers seeking pristine night skies. On clear evenings, the stars illuminate the heavens, offering a breathtaking spectacle.Whether you're drawn by adventure or simply crave tranquility in nature's embrace, Galloway Forest Park promises an unforgettable experience with its natural beauty and diverse activities.

Amazing scenery, long but plentiful walks and plenty of choice to decide where you want to go.We went to the visitor centre south of the main park and chose the white walk. Took us around 2 and a half hours and was greeted by amazing views. Pack a small lunch and make a day of it.

Chris H — Google review

Huge area of forest and lochs, beautiful countryside and wildlife and few other people around. Plenty of places to park and explore. Could genuinely always find somewhere new to explore here. No phone reception in most of it and very dark at night.

Lyra — Google review

It's a dog walker, hiker paradise. Loads of trails and expanses of nature. Amazing wild life, with frequent sightings of deer, red kites, goats, etc..A less manicured, much quieter lake district in many respects.

Joshua P — Google review

Did not get to visit all of Galloway Forest Park but we did enjoyed quite a few stops as part of the park. Very lovely countryside, well maintained and lots of walks and trails to take part in. If you are in the area then definitely take a moment to plan some walks in this beautiful wooded area

Agree with all of the other reviews here. However, this review is specifically for the purpose of stargazing / astrophotography, if that is what you are here for.We had read that Galloway forest is an official dark sky park so we decided to pay it a visit at night. However, we personally struggled to find a place to settle in for the night. Perhaps our research wasn’t thorough enough, in which case we would be grateful for some recommendations. We did explore a few areas but couldn’t find a suitable place that had all the following factors:- View not blocked by nearby buildings or trees towering over us- A place we can park for an extended period without worrying about oncoming traffic- Not next to the road (the bright headlights from other cars driving by really messed with our night vision)- Not near a midge hotspot- Access to amenities such as water or toiletsWe still had an amazing view of the night sky though, so our trip was not completely futile. Just wish there was a specific area carved out for astronomy enthusiasts!

Rosie S — Google review

Abundance of amazing walks, great views. Merrick hike was definitely highlight of the trip.

Brilliant & beautiful. Forest drive, smooth gravel track. Stunning Loch views, dark skies. When you go make sure you chip in and buy a ticket. Can't want to go back.Plenty of places to stop & have a wander about. There's even toilets! You should definitely get up here and experience it yourself. 10/10

Such a stunning area. Loads to do and see. Various Lochs. Raiders Road is also a great visit, be sure to stop at Otter pool along the way. One of our favorite area in lower west Scotland. Lots of Red Kites and we even found an Adder relaxing on a footpath.

Yesterday I came here it wasn't any places to go, just camping place in the forest. Without car it's long way and you can't parking car closer, I was believe in Google Maps reviews, photos, but I was really disappointed, when was arriving there. Just beautiful views and any chance to park normal and walking around

See update below as of March 2024.We stopped on Clatteringshaws car park in our Campervan. £7 per night paid at machine through Ringo. We got the place to ourselves overlooking the loch. Visitors centre has a cafe open 10am - 4pm and has a good selection on cakes. There is a lovely little shop with locally made items. Note that there is a chemical disposal point for camper and/ motor homes. See the machine. Some history to the site with Robert the Bruce. Short distance to Newton Stewart if you need supplies. Great views and plenty of wildlife and when clear you are in the dark skies park.Update March 2024The cafe has closed. There is a different code for the overnight parking only available when you park up after 6pm. No pre booking of car parking spaces allowed. This has caused problems and therefore the Forestry service has withdrawn the number from the on site boards. Please do not abuse this facility.

I have been here a few times and I just love galloway forest. In 2 days I saw at least 10 wild deer, rabbits, hares, red deer at the red deer range, the wild goats and plenty of birds. I really wanted to see a red squirrel but theres always next time. I spent the day walking and taking in the breathtaking views and then at night I was lucky to experience clear skies and I have to say was amazed at just how many stars you can see it was stunning! I also saw satellites everywhere and shooting stars and venus was clearly visible. I highly recommend a visit to this forest and if your lucky enough to get a clear night please stay to see the stars and planets you will not regret it!

A beautiful area for walks. We parked at Glentrool and had a lovely (slightly damp) walk with our dogs, accompanied by hot chocolate from the cafe.

Laura E — Google review

An amazing walk around Loch Trool. This dog friendly Park is a beautiful escape from everything. Open 24 hours, so it is perfect for star gazing since there is no light pollution. There are 3 visitor centres. I went to Glentrool cafe, which is wheelchair friendly, with a great selection of cakes and tray bakes (gluten free too), as well as hot panini and sandwiches (that you can buy when the kitchen is open, from 12 - 4). However the roads to get there are quite windy and narrow. It is £4 for parking for the whole day. There are 4 routes to pick from, from a 6 miles loop around the Loch to 1 mile path perfect for cycling, so there’s something for everyone.

The Waterside is a charming bar and restaurant located on the stunning Ayrshire coast. The establishment offers fine dining with a friendly and attentive staff, as well as strict COVID-19 measures in place for safety. Guests can enjoy a lovely selection of dishes, including the superb soup of the day featuring tomato, chili, and red pepper. The menu also includes options like fish and chips, mac and cheese, and more without breaking the bank.

Excellet place to eat, sat outside on Sunday 28th of April on a nice day next to the wee river.I had the chilli scampi bites and kimchi fries, excellent, my son had the fish & chips which he said was the best he's had in a long time, it's all he eats and he was impressed that the batter was crisp but stayed stuck to the fish when cut, and my wife had the fish stew, she loved it, in fact an hour later she said she wished she could eat it again.Only been open under the new owners, who apparently own the local Indian place called Taal, for 3 weeks which was a huge surprise given the quality & service, usually there's lots of teething problems, my wife is a retired chef and she was equally impressed.Dog friendly, even at the bar area.Service staff were excellent as well, I must however apologize again for breaking a plate, got my foot caught and stumbled knocking a plate over. Will definitely eat there again if back in Strathhaven, can't recommend the place enough, 6 stars.Thank you.

Food was great, but a very small menu.Could use a bit more choice

Chris G — Google review

We happened across the waterside by accident. Looking at the reviews we were a bit unsure. Though the stomach always wins in this argument. When we entered the bar we were welcomed straight away. The service was 2nd to none and the food was good although the lack of steak pie is always a downer. The fish and chips is a huge side of haddock with hand cut chips. The mac and cheese is mac and cheese. And the bill didn't break the bank. We will be back the next time we are in the area.

My husband and I had lunch here,I had two starters and he had a main . I had the calamari which had no lemon with it and it was served with raw cabbage, not slaw which would been better. The Thai beef salad , the beef was overcooked. The croutons in halloumi salad were really hard.

Debbie B — Google review

Absolutely disgusted at the way my Husband has just been treated in this establishment. Came for our anniversary meal at recommendation of work collegues being new to the area following moving up from England. We asked for a table for 2, which we were given a booth straight away. After this we waited over 15 mins for a menu, i was on the verge of walking at this point to be honest, looked at numerous times by the staff but no menu.A girl came over with the menu which she brought over, we ordered 2 drinks. When the bar woman brought the drinks over she informed my husband it was a non sports pub not allowing team colours and he was not allowed to wear the top he was wearing, which was a long sleeve Rangers training jumper.I had to watch my husband shamed in to taking his jumper off in a pub AFTER ordering our drinks. He was stood at the bar when i asked for a table should it not of been mentioned then when noticed? There is no mention of this on the website and certainly not on entering the pub, no signs what so ever.I paid for the drinks and left. I will never return to this place no matter who tells me great reviews. I suggest your staff put a notice on the website and the foyer window if this is how you feel. An English gentleman from Manchester, surrounded by 4 great teams (city, utd, Liverpool and Everton) made to take of an insignificant Scottish team top is disgusting. For those reading this review, we had a lovely meal and drinks else where spending £100 quid. There loss is another restaurants gain!

My friend and I came here for dinner and the pub quiz. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. The food was so tasty and fresh ! The fish was huge ! The cocktails and drinks were on the cheaper side than what I would have expected. We will definitely come back and make this a regular thing !

first time back since new ownership. lets get the negative out the way first....95p charge for a glass of tap water is outrageous. I have never been charged anywhere for tap water before and i do think its atrocious. The service, food and atmosphire was good and we had a really lovely meal. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The tap water charge however does take the shine off of the experiance as i think it a little below par.

Pricey, with moderate portions, but very tasty and clean. Service very good overall, if a little slow and with other staff short of time to look after the clearly extremely new waitress. Beautiful setting- a true oasis of calm amid the bustle of busy Strathaven.

The heartwarming, healthily-wholesome, flavoursome, fresh food was exactly what we wanted after driving 8 hours. The three of us had planned a couple of weeks beforehand to come here to The Waterside after it was recommended by friends, who do the trip from south UK countryside and London to the Highlands often so they know their stops.Indie and Kyle front of house along with the clearly capable chef served us the perfect evening. We will be back, and to try Taal down the road!

We were booked in for Sunday lunch as a table of 7, we arrived as per our booking at 12.30. We were shown to our table and given two menus, the A la carte and the lunch menu.We got our drinks and had our order taken not long after that. Durring ordering a couple of our guests had wished to choose from the lunch menu to be told it wasn't available on a Sunday (this was obviously the week day lunch menu which we werent told). Why give customers menus which are not available? So we all had to order from the main menu which was a bit disappointing but never the less they chose something else off the A la carte menu.About 10 minutes after the waitress took the order she returned to the table to go back over the order and returned to the till point to put the order though to the kitchen. When we arrived there was already another couple of tables in and shortly after we arrived another table were seated. An hour after taking the order the food arrived. The food itself was OK. They missed the peas off the kids meal and I had to ask where my portion of chips which was which I had ordered, they had been missed off the order.Half way through our meal we noticed the table that had arrived just after us had got Roast dinners which were not on either the standard lunch menu or Alacarte menu we got. When we enquired with the manager and waiting staff they told us that there was a Sunday lunch menu and it wasn't available to us when we arrived. We couldn't have been more than 10minutes infront of the table that got the Sunday lunch menu.Really disappointed with our visit, very obvious it's under new management. Standard of service is not good at all, a shadow of which it used to be.I've worked in hospitality for a number of years and I wouldn't want any of the front of house staff working for me.

It had been a while since we had lunch at The Waterside so we were looking forward to a return visit. It was always bustling and busy at lunchtime and at times difficult to get a table. But not today. We actually thought it had closed, it was so dark and lifeless. We were surprised when the doors opened. There was only one other table of 2 diners. Very eerie and strange we thought. We could see the menu had changed from our previous visits and whilst the choices weren't great we placed our order. For only having one other table in, it took a long time for the food to come out. And when it did arrive, all dishes were luke warm at best. The chips were rotten, black and reheated (several times I'd guess). Whilst the steak in the ciabatta was tender and tasty it came with the rocket and dressing we had requested be left out. The chicken shawarma which was supposed to contain pickled cucumber (which I really like) came with pickled gherkin (which I really, really can't stand!)We brought it to our servers attention but no offer was made to remedy the situation - either to replace the food items or offer alternatives. The server just disappeared. When the bill arrived it had been discounted which we felt was fair. But the difference from our previous visits till now we're so vast and stark I googled whilst I was there, only to learn The Waterside had changed ownership. The difference was like chalk and cheese. It really felt it was being run by people out of their depth and with little experience. The food was of poor quality, badly presented and over priced for some of the items. It was an extremely disappointing visit and one we certainly won't repeat.

Chose this amazing little bar/restaurant for our first meal out on our Babymoon and it didn't disappoint! The service was brilliant, with socially distant covid measures in place including screens, plenty of hand sanitiser and all staff in masks. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was absolutely beautiful! Such a lovely selection, we were spoiled for choice! After much deliberation, my partner and I both went for the soup of the day, which was tomato, chilli and red pepper - it was superb! Then for mains, my partner went for the fish & chips with minted peas and I opted for the 3 cheese macaroni. The portion sizes were huge!! So much so, we were unable to squeeze in a dessert, much to my disappointment.I'd definitely recommend this place and would certainly go back if we were ever to visit Strathaven again!

Food ok? Had to send bugger back because it was cold , also a portion of loaded fries was cold , Staff very good and replaced them no problem, not great value for money ,iv had bigger and better burgers but what I had was ok .

Peter A — Google review

Trying too hard and not quite nailing it. Tonight we ate a mix from the pre theatre and a la carte menus and some of the combinations were interesting but I would say not so successful. The scallops starter @ £8.95 was underwhelming and I thought undercooked (just) , with the cauliflower purée non existent smear across plate. Main course tandoori haddock didn’t work. A nice piece of haddock “ruined”. Dry pilau rice. Chicken with spiced spaghetti a random choice but my son enjoyed it. Korean noodles OK too. The sticky toffee mess for puddings was too heavy, really thick toffee caramel and could’ve been better. Best choice of the evening was my youngest sons kids meal. Nice fish and chips in crispy batter and good starter and pudding too. Overall disappointing and better elsewhere for the price (£145 for 5) for a Friday evening pub meal. After meal glass of port couldn’t even find a decent glass.... pity. Coffee good !! Waiting staff excellent.

First time in The Waterside and was quite impressed. Took family members for a lunch. Really good table service, food arrived relatively quickly and the surroundings were very comfortable. I will definitely go again.

Nature & Parks

Lovely and clean park...loads of places to play for the litre ones and it even has an outdoor gym area...

Chantal S — Google review

A beautifully laid out scenic park with several Attractions. Miniature railway.Pond with paddle boats, putting green, victorian bandstand and Barrie Shelter cafe.Great for children. Good parking. Only 30 mins from Glasgow. Great short travel day out.

Dennis S — Google review

I love strathaven Park, but I was so sad to hear that the council no longer has anything to do with it. There are some gorgeous apple trees up the top, and there were some raised beds that are full of weeds. They've just abandoned them. I will definitely need to go back and do some weeding. Real shame.

Linda S — Google review

Really lovely park with lots of different play areas for very young children upto teenagers. Has a great little pond with some ducks. We took our puppy and were pleased to see loads of very friendly dogs on our walk. Nice wee sculptures and areas to explore. It has a cafe but it was closed when we visited. Would definitely go back for another visit.

W G — Google review

What a wonderful little gem.Great place to take the kids out. The train and boats are very affordable and fun. The parks and spaces to play are clean and well kept.Little cafe was brilliant checking what my daughter was able to eat as she has allergies.100% reccomend for a different day out.

M L — Google review

Good to see leisure facilities available to the public. Pity the miniature railway wasn't functioning. The boating pond was great and staff helpful. More picnic tables would be appreciated. Tearoom/ restaurant was very good for value.

Gordon M — Google review

Lovely park with lots to do. Good play spaces for the wee ones, younger and older.Lots of friendly dogs around. A real community hub for local dog owners.Activities are great and not overpriced. That's to the wee cafe for keeping them going. And the local miniature railway is just lovely. Friendly volunteers and a great wee ride for children and the grown ups.

Ginger B — Google review

Lovely place, lots of different areas to keep the kids amused. Great walk with the dog. So nice to see a community park that is being used by the community.

Elizabeth — Google review

Just like the way it should be. Lots of engaging activities. We travelled during the balloon festival and thus the park was jam-packed but well organized. The mini railway stole the show for most of us.

Sankar M — Google review

So privileged to have this park on my doorstep. So well kept and just a delight to walk through. Love it. Well worth a visit. Such a dog friendly park, even when visiting the ducks on the pond. Great playground for toddlers and older children.

Sandra H — Google review

A lovely park with lots of young and senior aged children's play areas. There is also a cafe, boating pond and miniature railway (run by volunteers at weekends and bank holidays). It is a shame that the local council is withdrawing funding for certain areas and you can already see where lack of care due to cost cutting is impacting. Nevertheless a lovely couple of hours can be spent here with children in a safe and very pretty parkland location. There is also a hot air balloon festival once a year, so check online for the dates.

P H — Google review

Beautiful wee park, very peaceful

Nadine K — Google review

Lots of play equipment at the top of the park for older children and some smaller ones at the pond for young ones. The pond is bone dry at the moment so no boats.Mini railway still runs bringing something that bit different to the park.Gardens and grass are well maintained.

Groaver A — Google review

Absolutely brilliant park. Me and my family stay local but people travel to use it. We love the boating pond especially great place to go and get some fresh air and enjoy some peace within the craziness of every day life.

Andrew K — Google review

Lovely park! Love the mini waterfall and walking past all the water running. The play parks were a lot of fun for the kids but the star of the show was the train ride! It was £3 for my 3 kids to go on and it went round several times. Great quality for the price and was a lot of fun! The men running it were lovely as well and this will definitely be a memory forever! We will definitely be back and I seriously recommend you pay a visit!

Olivia H — Google review

Came to this park to participate in the Strathaven Balloon Festival. There are many entertainment facilities for children and many beautiful scenery in the park. The Strathaven Balloon Festival is held in August in the Award-winning Strathaven Park, some 25 mi (40 km) southeast of Glasgow. A weekend of free festivities for all the family draws around 30,000 visitors annually. The event is known as the only hot air balloon festival in Scotland. What's more, this celebration is among the UK's top three ballooning events, attracting pilots from all over Europe.

Jingchao Z — Google review

Really nice park with plenty for all of the family. Also great place for dog walking. Well worth a visit.

Lovely park with a good range of different fenced off safe play areas for all ages. There is a boating pond, exercise area, toddler park, children's play park, miniature train (open in season at weekends), and even a nice sensory area and takeaway cafe with toilets.

7Stanes: Glentrool Mountain Bike Trails in Galloway has become a popular destination for cyclists of all levels. The big country route offers stunning views and the opportunity to challenge yourself with an extra 30 miles to Newton Stewart. The trails are well-maintained, offering superb hiking and cycling experiences. Additionally, the area boasts beautiful scenery including hills, lochs, rivers, waterfalls, and woodland.

Brilliant place, thoroughly enjoyed it for both walking & MTB. Jaw dropping scenery, hills, lochs, rivers, waterfalls & woodland. Trails are superbly maintained for hiking & cycling. Cafe is spot on & reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Great spot for our first experience of the 7stanes. The Blue is an easy trail, with great views, not many technical features but a nice ride all the same! Would love to see a Red trail here! Great access for our motorhome, fab walks too!

I’m only giving this 2 stars because this trail needs the signage sorted out and made clearer! My fiancée was doing this circuit yesterday and as she left Newton Stewart and headed towards the black loch section, the signs disappeared and as the trail wasn’t marked she ended up cycling on the main road, as this section is in a mobile reception black spot she had no way to contact me (I was her support vehicle waiting at the black loch)I’ve marked the section that needs to be checked so this doesn’t happen to others.

Closed over winter. But car park and picnic site still available. Beautiful views of the fast moving river at this time of year.

Marion M — Google review

A great cycle round the purple route.....no thanks to the signage....a couple of missing signs and a couple of vague and hard to find signs. Had issues before in Glentrool forest. Not exactly hard work or expensive to put up these signs up...or is it covid 19 to blame.....an easy option for them I guess....

Steven D — Google review

Third time I've done the Glentrool big country route with the latest trip I decided to add an extra 30 miles onto the journey by cycling out to Newton Stewart I believe. Did 100 miles cycling that day with continuous fantastic views and scenery. When you get back to your vehicle after doing this 7 stanes; you will feel unbeatable and able to concor so much more. Doing the big country route always makes me want to do Lejog. I'm sure I'll be back here again.

Nestled within the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory boasts two impressive telescopes that offer a captivating view of the universe. The observatory provides an educational experience suitable for all, with friendly guides who simplify complex astronomical concepts. Visitors can also explore interactive science exhibits. While reaching the observatory involves navigating steep and gravelly roads, the informative and engaging experience makes it worthwhile.

Very enjoyable visit despite the evening turning cloudy, still learnt a lot. We'll be back to try again sometime!

Ed S — Google review

We've been there a few times in the past. Interesting guests, presentations and equipment. But...We would be coming more often but the road puts me off. It's a tyre slasher in places and very uneven. Could only be fun in a 4x4. And the opening and closing gates? C'mon...People have been complaining about the access road for years but nothing is being done about it. Surely must be worth upgrading to bring more people in and therefore more money? Unless it's only for people who can afford a 4x4? I hope I'm wrong as it should be accessible to all.Speaking of. The place is NOT ACCESSIBLE for people with disabilities. Very disappointing.

Was an interesting and fun night out! Never realised there was somewhere like it nearby and it was worth the trip! The staff were very helpful and obviously knew a lot about the stars. The interactive science exhibit was also interesting and fun to see. Getting up the hills towards it can be difficult with some of the hills being quite steep. My Golf managed it but it struggled a tiny bit

Colin L — Google review

We loved this place. Will 100% go back. It was 100% cloud cover and chucking it down when we visited so we experienced the "plan B" which was still very informative and worth going along too. Only thing to note is that the drive to it is very windy with very bad deep gravel roads so just take care and maybe don't drive anything too fancy or low! Bare this in mind for your journey time too as it took us considerably longer to get there than google had suggested, albeit I imagine this was mostly down to the atrocious weather!

Dumfries House is an impressive Palladian mansion built by the Adam brothers in the 1750s, set within a sprawling country estate. This architectural gem boasts exceptional preservation with Prince Charles taking personal interest in its protection. The house has a stunning collection of Chippendale furniture, tapestries and artworks on display for visitors to admire through guided tours, which can be booked in advance. Historic Environment Scotland members benefit from discounted entry fees.

The Estate was quiet due to the high winds from the ongoing storm that was hitting Scotland that day but the sun was still shining and we had a lovely meal in the coffee shop. The grounds were looking beautiful in their Autumnal colours enjoyed walking through the estate

Wonderful place to visit. Gardens are lovely and well maintained. Plenty of open space to enjoy walks and sit to enjoy the atmosphere and tranquility in certain sections of the gardens.Recommend taking your own picnic/ lunch as cafe is small / not much seating and not adequate to deal with large crowds arriving at same time . Toilet facilities are available however more toilets would benefit the public as there was large ques waiting to use toilets. Fantastic family day out can be had at Dumfries House highly recommended

Christine H — Google review

We couldn't get in to see round the house as it was closed for a wedding but we will save that for another day. The grounds were stunning especially the Walled Garden. Lots of walks in the grounds and if you've got kids plenty to keep them busy. Great wee tearoom as well.

Jean C — Google review

Visited Dumfries House for the monthly market today. We had lunch in the cafe that was scrumptious and reasonably priced. You may have to wait a few minutes in the queue to be served, but it's worth the wait. The most lovely surprise was the converted horse stalls into cosy eating areas.A must is a visit to the Walled Garden. Stunning flower displays/trees and so many peaceful seating areas. We chatted about going back to simply sit and read within the beautiful surroundings. The whole day can definitely be spent there, as there is so much more to see.Highly recommend.

Astounding greenery, may this place keep being vibrant healthy and strong in eternity. Very nice and safe worksmanship on the toys as well. A little inconvenient that everything was closed down in the evening, perhaps a vending machine for a hot chocolate for the late visitors would complete it nicely 💝😊

Wander Q — Google review

Totally wonderful day spent last week at Dumfries House with my friend. The house tour was excellent with the guide being very knowledgable with lots if interesting detail but never at any point was he overloading us with info.. The gardens , trees and whole estate as we saw it was really fascinating. So much has been done to encompass the local people and bring the best out of the estate in every way. Very impressive indeed. I would love to know what the variety of the sunflowers which grew multi stemmed but only to about 24” high and formed a hedge in the walled garden.

3rd time here and it won't be the last. There is always something different to do and walk .It's so peaceful and well maintained.Dog friendly on leads There is an outdoor area at the cafe if you have a dog .The only problem is if you're on your own with the dog I find it hard to get someone's attention in the cafe to come out to me They need to attach something outside to tie the dog securely.

Fantastic house with an outstanding Chippendale furniture collection. I have attended two guided tours (the clocks tour and a Grand Tour) - both were very informative of the house and collection. The gardens are also nice, especially the walled garden. The website is however in need of an massive update - it is unfortunately not informative at all (not even opening times for the garden, no map of the attractions,...)

Nice place for a walk, dogs are welcome on the estate grounds, few interesting things for children to keep them occupied like engineering corner or maze. If you want to have a tour inside the house, defenitely recommend to book tickets online in advance of your visit

Amazing place. Fantastic for a day out. Lots to see and do. The Woodlands Garden, the Walled Garden, the Arboretum and the Maze are wonderful. So nice for a peaceful walk. There are so many stunning trees to see too. There's a massive playground for children. Lots of parking spaces in the main car park as well as near the visitor centre/café. Toilets and baby changing facilities are available and clearly signposted. Dogs are welcome in the grounds. There's a café, a restaurant and a gift shop. It's free to visit but there's a £3 fee to visit the Walled Garden which is worth it. There's a charge for tours of the Dumfries House but we didn't get to do a tour on this occasion. My friends and I really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again.

Very pleasantly surprised. The parking and the grounds are free to visitors: there's a charge for a guided tour of the house only. The house is worth visiting. The guide tells of the history of the house and how it came to be under the auspices of the King. You will need to book if you would like to visit the house. Wonderful adventure playground for a wide range of age groups. However, it is the gardens which are the best feature. Very impressive; beautifully laid out and a joy to explore. Art museum

Museums

This all-inclusive collection of ceramics, tapestries, glass and decorative arts is perfect for kids. There's plenty to do here such as Wee Wednesdays (for under-5s) and monthly family film screenings.

I visited the Burrell Collection yesterday primarily to view the Degas exhibition, which featured a stunning collection of about 30 exquisite artworks. After that, I participated in a one-hour free tour of the rest of the collection led by the amazing volunteer guide, Helen. She was incredibly knowledgeable about all the artworks in the museum and truly a valuable source of information. The museum itself is quite remarkable, filled with natural light and allowing the artworks to be displayed at a comfortable distance from one another, making it easy to appreciate each piece. Given the diverse eras and civilizations represented, I would have been lost without Helen’s insights, so the free museum tour was immensely helpful.Afterward, I enjoyed lunch at the lovely restaurant with a beautiful view of Pollok Park and browsed the gift shop, which offered unique art-inspired cards, prints, and souvenirs.I will definitely be returning! I had a wonderful time.

A P — Google review

Free to enter and an interesting mix of traditional and modern building structures in which the museum is housed. Lots of outside seating, a free electric bus to run you about the Park should you not be able or fancy walking the short distance to Pollock House. Dogs are not allowed inside the building so I dog sat in the car park. Be warned, paying by RingGo involves an additional payment of 40p on the £10 daily charge, no warning of that on any of the sign boards or on the Burrell Collection website. (Nice little earner!) No outdoor seating for refreshments so no chance of me having lunch with my wife and daughter. I'm told the Collection is worth seeing.

Michael S — Google review

Plenty parking with disabled spaces. Easy access to building for wheelchairs and anybody with walking difficulties. Easy to walk around with lifts to all floors, cafe easily accessible with a good selection of meals, snacks, cakes and scones. The actual collection is brilliant and very interesting. Artifacts from all over the world with details on each one. They also have hearing help for anyone that needs it. The grounds outside are accessible and lovely for a picnic or walk. Definitely recommend and it's freezing.

Pamela B — Google review

I really enjoyed this place - the architecture of the building is stunning to start with, then the collection of art amassed over many years is astounding. Free entry to the main areas. You could spend many, many days here. A Degas exhibit was on whilst we were there which was also exceptional. Well worth the visit - oh and don’t forget to also visit the highland cows nearby too!

JED — Google review

Unmissable highlight of any visit to Glasgow. The revamped Burrell won museum of the year in 2023. It's not that easy to get to without a car as it's situated in the middle of the enormous Pollock Park. I cycled and the cycle routes from central Glasgow are fantastic. The collection itself is amazing containing several masterpieces. The museum itself is beautiful and has a good cafe as well as an indoor picnic area. The staff were wonderfully helpful.

Angus H — Google review

Fantastic museum! 6,000 objects on display out of the total of 9,000 objects. Quite a variety of art of various sorts, historical objects, works by well known masters, and more. Very extensive collection. Plus the building itself is very interestingly designed and very enjoyable to walk around as you view the museum pieces. Plus it's in a park where you can see Hyland Cattle and get in a nice walk if you'd like. All together I spent 6 hours and enjoyed all of it.

Ed M — Google review

Great place for adults and children. Lots of interactive exhibits, fascinating items from around the world. Nice cafe, and clean washrooms.

Angelo P — Google review

Very interesting collection of eclectic items ranging from paintings and pottery to furniture and weapons. Entrance is free however you have to pay to park. Currently, the parking tariff is £5 for 4 hours and can be paid either in cash or by using the RingGo app. At first this feels like a short amount of time but is ample for taking in all there is to see and do. There are also a couple of cafes inside serving similar menus. These are better catered to more adult tastes and lacks choice for children's meals.

John M — Google review

Free entry, amazing museum. Have been multiple times now and have enjoyed each visit greatly! Item descriptions are super accessible and have some fun prompts too.Of course can't forget the highland cows in the park.100% worth a trip.

Emma D — Google review

It is too good to have a free entrance! Great collection of arts surpassed only by an intelligent narrative that makes one think and enjoy even more. Family friendly, with amazing light, and just about right not to get bored. A place to come back to many, many times.

Beautiful museum. Free ! Amazing array of artefacts. Fascinating. Beautiful interior. Cafe is poorly arranged on a busy day. Expensive, £5.75 for soup. Slow service..... but nevertheless a lovely setting to relax and look out. Water free !Parking a pain. Cant use a card....need change or app. Lovely setting. Great walks all around. Ideal for dogs 🐕. Kids outdoor playground popular too. Top place. Love it. ❤️

Philip G — Google review

Amazing collection of art and artefacts from across the globe. Beautiful architecture and extensive grounds for outdoor walks and play areas. A definitive must do when visiting Glasgow!

Jen M — Google review

The Burrell Collection is, quite possibly, the most thoughtful and well-curated museum I've been to. Located in lush Pollok Country Park, the collection of art is agnostic to time and space, instead favouring a cultural and historic collage of relationships between objects and life. There is something here for everyone, particularly in the education components; the wall text and object descriptions are, somehow, pitched for all ages and incorporate social, artistic, and contemporary history. There's plenty of seating and great accessibility throughout. The building itself is magnificent, with large windows backlighting stained glass and views out onto the wood just next to the museum. The cafe is large though was crowded when I visited, but there were plenty of indoor 'picnic areas' as well.

Travis M — Google review

Fabulous day out for the whole family! - No wonder they won Museum of the Year! Well done!!Eclectic collection is arranged in a very accessible way, visitors are invited to linger in the rooms with ample seats and great videos adding to the experience. Excellent consideration for children, and for visitors who are visually impaired etc.My personal favourites were the introduction video to the archives and storage ( in the basement level, near coffee shop) and the Wagner carpet video which really brought the paradise garden to life in 3D, neither in my shots here so you have to go and see those in person! The only thing that could be improved is signposting from public transport. Have now visited twice after the reopening, first walking from the Hop On Hop Off bus stop which is about 10min walk away, lovely walk through the forest but poor GPS signal / connection with my mobile operator so couldn’t rely on the phone for navigation and dog walkers were far and few in between. This week we took the train to West Pollokshields and our GPS signal was not great here either so clear signage to the correct station exit etc would have been great, we ended up taking the longer route which didn’t matter to us but might make it difficult for other visitors. BBut all in all a wonderful day- thank you very much.

Free entry. £5 parking fee in coins. The museum building is brand new and absolutely amazing. Loads of light from the numerous windows, the use of the light and space creates a very special ambiance. The collection is diverse and world class. Top recommendation. 5 stars.

We went on a wet Sunday since it was reopened. Collection was well curated with very accessible info by the art works. There is an interesting variety of exhibits ( paintings old masters and impressionists, some sculpture including Rodin and some Chinese art snd sculpture)based on the tastes of Burrel. The Degas exhibition was on when we went too which was very good with some wonderful art and fascinating history of how the works needed up in Scotland - but busy. Cafe food was good too. Good day out.

Brilliant pieces of history, displayed and laid out well. Plus a beautiful building and were treated to an excellent guided tour. All staff were great too. Fully recommend.

Ned H — Google review

Lovely art collection, would love to go back and spend a lot longer going around the exhibitions. Sadly my last visit was only an hour and I saw very little. Would recommend making a day trip out of it. I would say it's a great place for families with a good-sized playpark right beside and nice wee walks surrounding

Brea W — Google review

Wonderful museum full of treasures. Very eclectic collection. The building is a joy to traverse. Parking a little awkward to find and you need coins to pay in the machine, so that was a little disappointing but not the fault of the museum. Would gladly visit again.

Michael A — Google review

A must-see. The age on some of these artefacts and artwork is hard to get my head around. The stele of amenemhat is almost 4,000 years old, for example. A real treasure trove from all over the world. Free to enter. Downstairs cafe and a gift shop. Plenty of parking and on the grounds of Pollok Country Park, so you can take in a walk and go see Pollok house. There's a play park for children too. A lovely way to spend the day

Nature & Parks

Pollok Country Park, located in Glasgow, offers a diverse range of activities for visitors. The park features extensive woodland and gardens that provide a sanctuary for both wildlife and nature enthusiasts. It boasts mountain biking trails, play areas for children, and picturesque picnic spots along the riverside. Additionally, art lovers can explore the renowned Burrell Collection and tour Pollok House to admire an impressive art collection by Sir William Burrell.

I can’t recommend this place enough. I went there with my friend and her two year old. We had a good walk. We enjoyed the gardens, the bridge, the picnic areas the cows and Jethro enjoyed riding his little bike. The main building is in a very delicate state. The maze gardens are picturesque. The view from the benches is totally breathtaking.

🌲🌳 Always opportunities for decent but easy walks. The house grounds are excellent for walking, as is the paved trail along White Cart Water. One downside is parking is relatively expensive - £5 minimum to park up near the house, for which you get four hours. Shorter options would be preferable! Despite that, it's worth a visit and a stroll around.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful! It is such a peaceful place to visit and enjoy. We loved seeing the highland cows. The outside of the home is stunning. We were unable to go inside since it was closed for a wedding.

Kelly A — Google review

Genuinely did enjoy our visit here. Went for a picnic and to see the highland coos. As it was an extremely sunny day, didn’t get to see many of the cows, but definitely had a good walk and lovely picnic. The only major drawback I felt was that in the entire property there were 2 washrooms and they both shut earlier than when the park shuts. That created a little bit of an inconvenience for us.

Geethika R — Google review

Had a lovely morning walk at Pollock Park. There’s a lot to explore, and you can do so without getting too muddy too!On a snowy day or in summer it would look stunning. The parking is a little steep (a fiver) because you need to pay for 4 hours. But it was worth it, I feel buzzing after our walk.Pollock House grounds are very nice, and there is a place to get coffee on site.As a haikuPollock’s soft embrace,Seasons' charm in nature's space,Walk in a calm place

Very beautiful place to visit, I've been twice now, once to see the highland coos and art gallery and once to wander around the house. The library is a stunning room, of you love books we paid once there and had no trouble doing so, they also have a over 60's price.

Pollok Country Park is Glasgow's largest park and the only Country Park within Glasgow. Its extensive woodlands and gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife.Attractions to Pollok Country Park include the world famous Burrell Collection, the working Clydesdale Horses and Glasgow's much acclaimed, award winning fold of Highland Cattle. The park is located in the South west of the city just 3 miles from the city centre.

Abu H — Google review

We visited the Highland Cattle Park. The wee coos were so adorable & they were all so peaceful! The bulls were in a different field and just massive! In total, there were 4 fields with coos. Benches & shady trees. Will definitely love to visit again to see more of the huge park!

Sara ~ — Google review

Lovely park with lots of green space & places to explore. Particularly loved the Burrel collection with a beautiful sunny interior and cafe ☕️The reason i visited was to see the highland cows and we even saw the calfs!! adorable and definitely worth the visit 🥹

Katie A — Google review

Great park to visit with lots of woodland paths and highland cows. The house is impressvie with lovely gardens you can walk round. The Burrell collection is a great museum and the restaurant is excellent. Parking is now pay and display and not cheap

Adam B — Google review

Really well manicured gardens with lots of accessible paths for cyclists and pedestrians. Unfortunately the main house was closed, but we got to walk around and it was scenic and beautiful. The paid parking for both this and the Burrows collection forces you to pay £5 for 4 hours, there's no lesser denomination. Highly recommend visiting.

Jack A — Google review

A wonderful place. Take your children, your families, or your loved ones. Enjoy seeing the greenery, the beauty of nature, and the beautiful and distinctive highland Scottish cows.Consider the ancientness and greatness of the place. Take yourself on a journey centuries ago and beautiful ancient times. It tells you about the magnificence of the place and many of the stories, events, and people who lived in this place at that time and made history and left their beautiful mark.

Beautiful place, one of my favourite places to go for a walk and a look around. It's definitely worth a visit. There's plenty to see and do, and it looks different every season.

Dani H — Google review

Full fun day out to explore many things for kids, surprisingly got to see highland cows which was amazing experience, indoor options available for kids to spend some nice time during weather condition. we had a good time eating packed lunch in sitting area inside museum.

Shraddha D — Google review

A huge park that makes you forget you're in the middle of a city! It's full of birds and wildlife and the extensive woodlands are always a joy to walk through. There are well-paved paths for easy access, a great play park for the kids, lots of open green space for basking in summer sun and, of course, the Burrell Collection and Pollok House (closed at time of writing). The only annoyance is how expensive parking is and how you can no longer park for free as a National Trust member.

Stunning location. Fascinating collections. Didn't realise how big the museum is. Currently hosting a Degas exhibition.Great coffee in the cafe too. Highly recommended.

A lovely place to visit..lots of woodland trails, buildings to visit..The Burrell Collection opens..tickets £5..cafe and facilities there..Also a bridge and waterfall to see also the beautiful highland cattle with their young..so cute....you could spend all day .parking £5 for up to 4 hours..payable by coins or parking app..

It’s a very big park in Glasgow that you can enjoy with art museum, walks and gardens. We stroll around for a few hours after visit to Burrell Museum. The only thing we’re not satisfied is the parking machines definitely not tourists friendly. Only coin machine available or through Ring Go App, but the Ring Go app is not downloadable for overseas tourists (must be UK app account) And there’s no coins convert machine nearby neither. Not only us other tourists also got the same issues and have to leave without coins.

HKCNJP P — Google review

Fantastic for a nice walk , can stop to look at some highland cows which was lovely. There's a big play area probably more suited for 4+ age range and of course all the indoor burial collection etc is but we just spent the day outside other than popping in for the bathroom. There was also a wee ice cream van too so it was great on the hot day we visited! Would highly recommend.

Sarah K — Google review

An amazingly beautiful and serene place with marvelous views, wildlife, and gardens. It is so vast that it is impractical to explore the whole park in one day; you need multiple visits to comprehend its vastness and wonders. You will forget you're inside a metropolitan area, away from all the noise and fuss.a most see indeed.

Art cafe

House for an Art Lover, located in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, is a stunning venue inspired by the unrealized designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. This art nouveau building offers various attractions such as art classes, theatrical productions, and a charming cafe for afternoon tea. The venue also features an art gallery, exhibition space, artists' studios, and a play park within its 169-acre grounds.

House for an Art Lover is a special venue especially for a wedding. I recently attended a wedding at the House of an Art Lover and the staff where excellent all day and night. The venue is absolutely beautiful especially on a wedding day. The food throughout was great and it seemed everyone enjoyed their meal. I believe they have tours on so I will be going back up to get the info on the history of the venue and maybe see some rooms we did not see at the wedding.

From start to finish, the team at HFAL went above and beyond to make the day as personal and as special as it should be. Our day started to run over timewise; as they are a specialist wedding venue, which comes with a dedicated wedding coordinator, their experience shone through, got the day back on track, and not one person realised, Absolute Professionals. The food is phenomenal 🤤. You expect when cooking at such a large scale they won't be able to reproduce such high quality as they did at the tasting, but it was even better ❤️The team were more than happy to accommodate any requests when we were planning our big day, including upgrading our drinks packages, which paired perfectly with our meal. It's a little added extra cost, but as we and some of our guests are a bit of a fussy bunch (background in hospitality, so love a good wine),upgrading the drinks package kept everyone very happy and was well worth it.Thanks again, especially to Head Chef Stuart, Bridget and FarooqPhotos by Ruth Charlotte Photography

Worth visiting to see how a Mackintosh building can be realized today. Just because the architect was not alive when it was built doesn’t mean that it’s not a Mackintosh building (from my perspective). The grounds are pleasant and you can get a good view of all sides of the building. The second floor was not accessible but the rest of the house was.

Glenn G — Google review

We recently hosted a conference dinner here and the experience was amazing. Sarah and her team went above and beyond to help us organise this event and accommodate our delegates, including the sheer number of them and dietary requirements, etc. Sarah made organising this remotely a much simpler process. At the event itself, Amber was an expert at dealing with timing complications when they arose and her team was professional and friendly and kept everything moving smoothly. The venue itself was amazing, and the set up for our dinner was stunning. The food was hands down the best I've had in my years organising conference dinners.I highly recommend the House of an Art Lover as an event venue, and I'm looking forward to visiting as a tourist to spend some time wandering the gardens and seeing more of the house itself.

A fascinating place to visit, Macintosh’s vision brought to life. Really atmospheric. It’s really just the ground floor and the balcony above but it’s well worth it.There’s a good coffee shop downstairs with outdoor seating too. I’d definitely recommend it

Welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were attentive but gave us space to chat and enjoy a relaxing, unrushed afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday.

Great place for an afternoon tea. Be sure to walk around the beautiful gardens.

Ron K — Google review

A group of us had lunch here, and the quality of the food was excellent. The service was good at the start but tailed off - after being given dessert/cake menus, we waited ages for an order to be taken, and we waited a while to pay too. But the food was all lovely so we would definitely go back when in Glasgow again.

Joy R — Google review

So very disappointed with this place. We visited as it was listed as part of the Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival. Online it stated it was open 10am-12pm. We arrived before 11 and there were no banners outside, no bunting, no signage at all to say it was taking part in the festival (which every other building we had visited did have!). We found the entrance which is poorly sign posted and went in. The woman on reception/gift shop till was not welcoming in the slightest. I asked if it was open for the festival and she told us yes it was but only until 11.15 as they had a wedding. We were only allowed to go to the first floor nothing else. No ‘hello or welcome, please come in’, the normal way you would greet someone, it was like anyone visiting was an inconvenience because of the wedding and they didn’t want you there (was it a mistake and they double booked?).When we went up to the first floor, it was so awkward and the furthest away room had all the chairs out for the ceremony so you couldn’t go in, and the open hallway area was fully set out with all the tableware (I’d hate to have my wedding set up and the members of the public walking amongst the tables before it started!).Really disappointed with the attitude of the staff member and the overall feel. The venue shouldn’t take part in things like doors open day if they don’t want the public to come. Every other venue is so welcoming and with lovely staff that you want to go back but I won’t be going back here.

A beautiful location with easy parking. Cafe offered a good selection of food and drink with very friendly, yet professional, staff. In fact, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The gift shop has a lovely selection to peruse and purchase something nice for yourself or others. I bought the “Friend of the House” card which gives me 10% off cafe, purchases etc. This place is more than worth a visit. In a rainy day take a walk through the gorgeous and on a nicer day enjoy the beautiful gardens.

Was here for a funeral wake. This place is lovely though. The Macintosh design room that we were in was stunning. The staff were present and very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended. Hats off to the staff and management. Sorry no photos from me on this one as it wasn’t fitting occasion but will definitely revisit

Morgan P — Google review

Took a trip out to House for an Art Lover to try their breakfast/brunch. What can I say?My friend and I were met with a lovely, warm welcome from the staff upon arrival. We then sat down to the most scrummy food. A breakfast stand (like an afternoon tea but with breakfast items).A whole variation of different food items, from the tasty mini brioche buns filled with sausages, bacon etc to the most delicious pastries. These pastries are actually made on the premises by the talented in-house pastry chef. You need to go try them, they are to die for. If that wasn’t enough, all the food is washed down with a mimosa (non alcoholic available) and of course the obligatory tea or coffee (also delicious).Get yourself along to House for an Art Lover , I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Lovely, friendly staff. Good menu choices, might be a bit fancy for some tastes. The building itself, designed and built by Charles Rennie Macintosh is wonderful. Fabulous venue for weddings, I've been to two, both excellent.Great gift shop for all things Scottish and more.Beautiful walled garden (maybe stick to summer visits) with seating areas and ever changing floral vistas.I would highly recommend a visit

F. D — Google review

Mixed feelings about this one: definitely worth a visit… the story of how it came about is lovely. Design was nice to see, but on closer inspection things were starting to look at bit knocked-about and not made of the quality materials Macintosh certainly would have envisaged. I may be wrong, but I thought I saw quite a bit of painted plywood?

Nestled in the heart of Kilmarnock, Dean Castle Country Park spans over 200 acres and offers something for everyone. Visitors can explore scenic trails winding through woodland, open farmland, and wetland areas. The park also features a 14th-century castle museum surrounded by beautifully restored landscapes designed in the early 1900s. With a superb program of events, art galleries, and exhibitions, this friendly tourist attraction is perfect for families.

Great day out for the family in a well maintained park with free entry to the castle.Public toilets and a cafe are also on hand.Lots to see and do including duck pond and farm zoo.Good for dog walkers also

This was one of my best experiences in Scotland. This beautiful park and premises of Dean Castle offers a lovely museum which you can walk through the castle, up into different chambers and floors. The docents were very knowledgeable and we had a good conversation with one about this castle and the history of the area. Have a lovely cafe and wildlife in the park. There's a bridge that goes over a running river. The park is children and dog friendly. Even the cafe food and customer service was very nice. I would love to come back to this place once again. I forgot to mention there is no entrance fee.

We came to the park in June hoping to walk around and see the exterior of the building, as we'd read the castle was closed. So it was a nice surprise to find that we could go into the castle...for free! We made a donation though as it was such a great experience; learning about this history of the area, the families who lived here, seeing tapestries and war materials (armour, swords) from over the centuries and around the world with some recreated pieces too, you could go upstairs in the castle as well as the lower floor. A really interesting place with helpful room guide volunteers. We walked around a little of the gardens and saw the deers. An easy place to visit and park, very quiet on a week day, and all for free!Highly recommended.

The castle is an absolute highlight if you like to see recreation of historic life, very high quality renovation to add this free museum/exhibition across two buildings.Park has well kept paths that most are easily traversable with prams. And well kept grounds. Also has deer that sit like they are posing for photosThe cafe is cheap and cheerful type food wise but welcome and the coffee was pretty decent. Will visit again.

Great to get into the castle and explore this amazing venue. You get good hands on experiences as you can dress up, search for the hidden door and explore the musical Instruments that are there too. A great construction of the castle in Lego for the kids.Pay a visit to the wee gift shop, beautiful stuff! 👍🏻😘 🏘️🏰

This is an excellent dayout only 30 mins drive from glasgow. A beautiful forest park surrounds the very unique 14th century castle with its palace and keep. There are several walking trails to explore, each with its own theme. There is a heavy accent on Children's activityA beautiful river runs through the park and there is a large, wildly overgrown pond. The treetops cafe has excellent sandwiches and cakes and is very readonable. Staff are very helpful. Some paths are steep and not too suitable for the elderly or people with mobility issues. Best news is its all free. Go see and enjoy.🤗

We took my grandson to the winter wonderland event. It was good but not great to be honest. The main light show against the castle not on, some lights not working properly and the parking was a nightmare. You had to park in nearby neighbourhood which the residents must have hated.

Stunning area. Whole family loved it. Tranquil setting, deers were very visitor friendly and tame. Superb cafe, good value too. Castle and grounds looked great. Playground for kids was really good. Recommended.

David F — Google review

A really lovely place to visit when the sun is out. There are three different trails that you can follow or you can just go to visit the castle, rural life centre, and visitor centre (which are both free!).The walks were different lengths and not too strenuous but very scenic. The castle is so marvellous and has many different sections that you can explore, such as the palace, the keep, etc. (It is hard to believe it is free entry!). The rural life centre has some deer, bunnies, and a pig, all of which were fun to see! On the farm trail you can see more animals, like sheep, goats and horses. The visitor centre has a nice little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, and the prices are great. There are a good number of free toilets and bins around the park which many places lack, so I praise Dean Country Park for this! The only downside to this visit was that the map and directions can be very confusing at times and I often got lost. I think the map could be a lot clearer and include smaller paths and bridges.Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone, from couples to families with young children, there is fun to be had here for everyone! If you go in the spring, the lambs and ducklings will be out.

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is a museum that houses manuscripts, books, artefacts and artwork related to the poet Robert Burns. The museum is located in the cottage where Burns was born and spent his early years. The Museum features humourous audio and visual performances which will keep children amused. If you want to explore the birthplace of one of Scotland's national bards, the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is an excellent place to start.

We visited Robert Burns' birthplace in June and then walked over to the museum.Really interesting places to visit, with a lovely sculpture trail in between. As National Trust members, we got into both properties for free. The gift shop has lots of great things to buy, from books to chocolates, fridge magnets to stationary.

Tara S — Google review

the national poet, an icon and the man in the money! so often times the greats can be so dull, which is far from the truth for Robert Burns. The museum is carefully crafted and designed to be interactive, informative, engaging and entertaining. With various memorabilia on display, songs to listen to, work inspired by him, and the various tools to catch attention and insight, this museum is a must visit. The monument and gardens are immaculate, well preserved and gorgeous. We were stunned at the natural beauty and loved the experience. It is affordable and worth your time to learn more about such a scandalous, passionate man.

Kelsey W — Google review

This National Trust site is about Robert Burns’ life. It’s a very lovely, modern museum and building. The museum is topical rather than linear, but gives a view of his life and works. (I wish there was a life timeline but otherwise very nice.) It takes around 30 minutes at a moderate pace, and is a bit dark but with plenty of seating on edges.Facilities also include gift shop, clean toilets, a kids area outside, and lovely large cafe.Note: The museum ticket also includes the cottage a 5-7 minute walk away.

Becky T — Google review

The Robert Burns musuem is a nice place to visit if you're a fan of "English" poetry. I realize that this might apply to people of a certain age group. We took a guided tour and learned a lot about a son of Scotland. We had tea with biscuits and a sandwich. Surprisingly, they had some vegan options, too. A must-go if happen to find yourself in Ayr (pronounced Air), Scotland.

Very informative museum with great interactive things for the kids. Play area was good for kids of all ages outside and the cafe looked nice and was busy. Short walk to the Brigadoon bridge and monument, where you can climb to the top and and enjoy views over the area. Can walk from here to the Burns cottage via the Poets Path as well. Parking was free and toilets on site

It is essentially one room of paintings, manuscripts and Burns memorabilia. Interesting stuff. Not bad value for money (£12), as it includes entrance to his cottage.Worth seeing the Robbie Burns monument, but be wary of climbing the steps in that, particularly if you have large boots

An absolute must for Burns fans. Very interestingly designed, entertaining and well thought out. A visit to Burns Cottage is included in the price and can be reached via a specially designed footpath. The old church with cemetery, the Brig o' Doon and the Burns Monument are also in the immediate vicinity.

A good way to spend ,at least 2-3 hours. We visited the museum, birthplace and cafe. We came back, next day to do the monument and Brig o'Doon and Alloway Kirk. The gardens at the monument were lovely and very well looked after.

Sandra S — Google review

Lovely place. Lots of great displays in museum and well stocked shop with books, fabrics and things for the kids.Cheerfully received at reception.Enjoyed the grounds and looking at the Monument and the 'Brig' where Tam O' Shanter rode away! Cottage was a few minutes away from centre and easily accessible. Interesting tour of Cottage given by the guide. While there you can have a decent snack meal or cake in their café. All in all we enjoy this place. Recommend a visit. Have been twice already with our National Trust membership.

We were very impressed. The museum was excellent. Loved the way it was laid out and appropriate for all ages. Beautiful modern building. Excellent cafe and shop. Grounds were lovely with an interesting walk to the cottage. All very well maintained and informative.

Lesley W — Google review

Lovely centre with information about Robert Burns and his life. Occasional events and displays worth visiting. Roomy cafe with lovely carrot cake and hot drinks. Pleasant helpful staff.

Susan M — Google review

Great wee day out. Everything is right there. We had a beautiful crisp autumn day and the trees were amazing. Loved Brig o Doon and the Auld Kirk.I felt the museum was too dark but I understand they have to try and be careful of preservation

Tonino D — Google review

Visited while staying with family for the weekend, will definitely be back! Museum is great, loads of interesting artifacts and interactive displays. Nice touches for children, ours had fun with the interactive games and colouring. The walks around the various places within the village are lovely and I didn't realise there was so much to see before coming here! We had a yummy lunch and then went out to the kids play area, which is very imaginative, then headed back in for a warming hot chocolate. I even managed to pick up my first Christmas decoration purchase of the year! Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway extends to encompass a few sites of interest, including the house that Burns was born in. The museum itself is housed in a modern purpose built facility which features exhibits from various sources, not necessarily always owned by Burns himself, to illustrate his life. For instance, the museum exhibits the earliest known English guitar, an instrument that Burns was know to play. The centre has a fully equipped cafeteria for indoor and outdoor eating, and the entrance fee includes admission to Burns' house some 10 minutes walk along the road.

Steve G — Google review

Interesting exhibition with original manuscripts but dark inside to protect them. Audio options allows you to hear songs and poems. Good cafe on site. Walk to Burns cottage, ruined church and graveyard, and BRIG O Doon part of the visit

June M — Google review

Confessions - we didnt visit the museum. However, the coffee shop & gift shop are in a large airy building tastefully decorated with snippets of Burns’ poems. The toilets are nice and clean. The car park has space for even large camper vans. This is our favourite place to stop when driving from Cairnryan to Dundee.

Lisa T — Google review

Great place if you are into burns also Great if you like Scottish history. Exhibition is quite dark and hard to see or read some items, there is last Tuesday of every month when lights are. Includes visit to birthplace cottage and garden with Monument. All worth a visit. Cafe not too bad either, Great soup and reasonable prices.

Steve T — Google review

Very nice museum and external area. Place offering a lot of information in interesting and interactive way. Full immersion in old Scottish language. Handy and spacious is also Cafe on site where visitor can have a rest with cup of tea or other delicacies. Entrance fee was 11.50 GBP for adult person. Along with the places around like park, church, bridge and cottage, I would recommend the visit.

Katka ( — Google review

I am pleased that Burns has a serious focal museum. It provides a fine environment to celebrate a superior man. A Scottish legend. However, there were more people in the café than the museum. The museum has the usual WOKE sensibility in many areas. E.g. stating that Scots is widely spoken. It is Not. It is so dark, reading captions is difficult. Preserving the artefacts is the reason given. But, few are precious. Turn up the lights, please.

Ayr Beach is a family-friendly beach located in Ayr, Scotland. The beach features water recreation, fishing, and a nearby entertainment center.

Very beautiful beach, some roads have been closed recently, if you want to go to the beach, find a good parking place in advance, there is a lot of wind, pay attention to warm.

Absolutely fabulous place to walk along the beach. With nearly a Mile of beach and car parking all along which is Free (at his time of the year- October to March) There is a designated Motor home car park which is £10 per night from April to September but free now which you pay for via the RingGo app. Also has waste disposal area.

Had a lovely walk there today, tide had just turned and started to come in,nice flat and firm sandy beach (no pebbles and rocks),plenty of spaces to park and access the beach, saw a jellyfish which was huge.

From Glasgow city centre to Ayr beach it’s take about less than an hour. Summer time here’s beauty of beach and surrounding areas just amazing. Car parking 🅿️ is convenient and easy so no tension about that. Anyone can take bus/ own vehicles. I’d like to request all of the visitors please make sure you guys throw your food waste/ bottles etc into the bin. You will find bin in every 1min walking distance. Please Don’t throw them in the beach areas that spoil the beauty of this place. Overall it’s a beautiful and we should keep its area clean. Happy travelling

Clean beach. Ideal place for a relaxing walk. Lots of dogs and people enjoying fresh air by the sea. Lots of parking. Nearby park for children to play in, with climbing frames and swings. Public toilets are not far away either.

It's a nice beach in ayr with a long walkable beach. You can go with your dog and there are lot of shells for kids to collect and play with and lot of space. Should visit on a weekend especially in summer. Not recommended winter visit as it gets really cold. You can also go in the water a bit as it's shallow upto a distance, which makes it safer. Overall a nice beach.

Nikhil M — Google review

I think we got lucky, but if you walk from the car park on the southern end of the Esplanade over the River Doon you can get yourself on quieter shores - and towards the derelict Greenan Castle. Really lovely here and when the tides out you can walk past the castle easily on the sand. Oh & what a place to view a sunset 😀

Heads Of Ayr Farm Park is an enjoyable attraction with plenty of activities for all ages. Visitors can partake in various outdoor activities such as bumper boats, electric tractors, quad biking and trampolines. There are also several animals to interact with including alpacas, donkeys and Pygmy goats. Animal feed can be purchased at the entrance for those who wish to feed the animals. The park may not be suitable on rainy days as most of the activities take place outdoors.

Great place for kids. The soft play area was brilliant, both for older and younger kids. The food and drink was really good as well and we thought it was good value. The animals were great as well. It really looks like they have put a lot of money into the park over winter. We will definitely be back.

Keith B — Google review

Always a great time had. Last-minute trip as we finally got a good day. Loads to keep the kids entertained all day. All ages. Some of the activities you have to pay for and are so worth it when you see how much fun the kids are having - and the adults. The food is not great, the staff are very friendly and the wait on the food is really not long at all. The portions are huge but not tasty - that's just our opinion, though. That's what it's like wherever you go that has activities like this. I would recommend bringing a picnic. We did but still ran out of food!A great day out, well worth the money. I'd say to arrive as soon as you can so you can get in at 10 am and spend the whole day. It still wouldn't be long enough! Had to drag the kids out. Oh, and just be aware that some of the paid for activities and the cafes finish at 4 pm even though the park is open till 5 pm.

Asmaa G — Google review

The kids love it. They can feed the animals. Plenty of different parks to play. They love the bouncy pillows, trampolines, chutes etc. There are plenty of places to eat or picnic benches outside if you want to take your own picnic. There is also a soft play area & cafe which do lovely cakes! A nice wee gift shop to finish your trip.

Fiona — Google review

Such a beautiful farm park! Our children loved being able to feed and touch so many animals. Big open space with different areas for playing and seeing the animals. Big play park, sand pit with climbing pirate ship, so many trampolines and bouncy pillows. Train ride was fantastic fun. Indoor cafe was lovely, children enjoyed picking their own lunchboxes.

Caitlin G — Google review

So we visited here with the kids during our stay at Craig Tara and it was a fantastic day out with lots to see and do. The whole farm park has been well thought out, with plenty of animals and children's activities. Lots of places to sit and eat your lunch, the slides and parks inside the farm park were some of the best I've ever seen. Some of the alpacas were getting a little bit frisky with each other so expect lots of.. noise from their end. The park was very clean and tidy and you have the chance to feed some of the animals too.

Ben D — Google review

Great farm park a stone's throw away from Haven's Craig Tara park, hours of fun for kids between the playparks and the animals. There's also a restaurant that serves lovely food for all ages - I can recommend the loaded fries with black pudding and haggis!Entrance is a bit pricey but you definitely get your money's worth!

Gareth T — Google review

Amazing farm park and plenty to do with all the family. It was raining when we went, but there was still a lot to indoors. The soft play and animal petting were really good, and the staff were approachable and friendly. It's worth the money and the visit. There are additional charges for some things when inside (train ride, little tractor ride, water bumpers). They didn't have all the usual animals you would have at a farm either ( they had a wallaby walk through, camels, monkeys, and more!)Definitely visit if you're in the area! (We visited when we were at the Haven site next door).

Emily T — Google review

Visited Heads of Ayr Farm park for the first time 2 weeks ago during our week long holiday in Ayr with my daughter and 2 grandsons ages 1 and 3. Had a variety of age appropriate things for both boys to do and they had a great time! Spent the end of our visit in their extensive inside play area that also had a nice cafe for a coffee and snack. Definitely recommend to anyone in the Ayr area with children!

Jen N — Google review

We went to the Christmas family fun at the farm park so my daughter could see Santa. She was also very excited to see the new little baby goats that's she's been waiting not so patiently to see. She ran about and burned off some energy at the soft play, had lunch, got a cuddle from the Gringe and had a little chat with Mrs Clause before going to see Santa. Then a little look around the little critters barn and had a chat with Sammy the Cockatoo after seeing the baby goats and giving little baby Olaf a stroke. All in all she had a fab 3hrs.Ticket prices are slightly higher for the kids at just under £20 and adults are just under £8. I didn't mind paying that price tho as the toy from Santa was a fairly good toy she will get a lot of enjoyment out of (friendship making kit) and they still need to make money for the upkeep of the animals over the winter months.Food was really nice as well and the fact I can get vegan cakes for the little one with her allergies is a big plus for us.

Clair F — Google review

We spent the whole day here when visiting through the week. We booked online first, so we saved a few quid on tickets. There's absolutely loads to do like trampolining, rides on the quads and train, softplay, climbing on the combine, feeding the coats and seeing loads of other animals such as camels and Highland cows. Not sure if it was a through the week thing, but the fast food place was closed and so was the ice cream cart. Not the end of the world though as the cafe near the front did hot food and some really naughty cakes and cookies.Great day out, highly recommend a visit if you can make a full day of it.

John J — Google review

Absolutely amazing! Clean! Has Wi.Fi! Extremely large so can accommodate lots of ppl at a time.Food really good! Had a chicken bbq burger and was expecting to be a deep fried one but no, was grill chicken breast! Will return!

Iulian D — Google review

Went for my daughter's 8th birthday. Plenty to do and lots of animals to see. Went on the bumper boats (£2 per boat). Went on the kids quads £6 and got lost inside the giant barn. Definitely worth a visit. All pathed too so suitable for all.

Absolutely love it. Great day out & worth the money. Animals are well cared for & relaxed. So good to see them up close. Big indoor eating area with lots of choices. Loads of outdoor eating areas which are all over covered or open so if you choose a picnic there is plenty space. Inflatable pillow for kids & big kids. Well stocked gift shop for your treasured souvenirs or gifts. Just go & experience it for yourself 🐒🐫🐾🦌

We all had brilliant day worth every penny kids loved it and so much things to do an amazing place has been one of the best days of our holiday

Maureen T — Google review

Very nice park, plenty of parking and lots of things to explore for kids. The animals are free to roam, the tran ride was wonderful, lots of trampoline and jumping pillows. There are some issues, especially for parents with buggy and accessibility people. The trails for animals are at places paved with road or grit, which is good, however at places the trails are muddy which becomes slippery and difficult to navigate with buggy and I guess quite challenging for accessibility.

Abdul H — Google review

Heads Of Ayr Farm is a fantastic farm with a wide variety of animals and attractions. The site is organised and clean, and the animals are cared for very well. The food from the cafe is also delicious and a must-try, especially the cakes and biscuits! We would love to visit again in the future when in Scotland. 😊

Sherri — Google review

Great day out for families or couples. Lots to see and do and great on a sunny day. Lots of different animals to see and you can feed some of them too. Plenty of places for food/drink and handwashing stations were great too. You can buy tickets online in advance for £1 cheaper or buy at the gates.

Aaron A — Google review

Nice farm nextdoor to Craig Tara Holiday Park, so if you was staying at the park you could even walk there. Lots of animals, plenty of sheep and wallabys. Good for young children. We had plenty of rain when we went, but there was a great indoor play area that would be good even for young teens, whilst the adults can grab something to eat and drink. The only downside that we must mention is on the website it advertised a family ticket but when we got there we was told no such thing existed. Also my nephew who is only two had to pay a full adult price of over £15 which I thought is quite alot. But still nice day out.

Rachel M — Google review

Right well for starters its way overpriced, family orientated day out but charged us individually per head... 2 adults and 4 kids £99, would've been extra if we didn't pretend our youngest was under 1 as he has just turned 1 couple weeks ago... Could at least have some sort of family deal, anyways... Then within the venue they're looking for more cash for rides and stuff, quads, train ride and other different things... So be prepared for an expensive day... Took our own drinks and snacks with us, as again be costing an arm and a leg... But regardless of costs etc, the kids all thoroughly enjoyed it and always do... Gets the day in and keeps the kids active, with plenty of slides, swings, trampolines, variety of different animals from all over the world 🌎 Also an indoor soft play area, to accommodate the younger kids, so to be fair there's something for everyone to enjoy

Steven V — Google review

Great farm park. Staff lovely place was clean. A few full kit customers and a few tops off types. They fitted in with the livestock. I guess that's part of living in Scotland/UK.

Sights & Landmarks

Paisley Abbey is a medieval Catholic monastery that served as the final resting place for Scottish monarchs. The abbey dates back to the 12th century and has historical connections to William Wallace. Currently, it serves as a Presbyterian church and remains an important cultural site in Scotland.

A rustic and beautiful church with lots of fascinating history and some extremely beautiful stained-glass windows. We were welcomed by a volunteer tour guide who was both friendly and knowledgeable and although a couple of parts were closed off as they were in use, we saw most of the building and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Rob B — Google review

We happened upon Paisley Abbey whilst walking between the 2 railway stations in Paisley. What an incredible find.Dripping in Scottish history, almost 1000 years old in parts.Lovely friendly volunteer who was so helpful.

Lovely building in the centre of Paisley. Interesting to spend an hour looking around. Small shop/cafe with seating area.

Will M — Google review

Really enjoyed the Candlelight Concert we attended recently. The music and the orchestra and soloists were all first class. Only downside was the seating which I know cannot be helped. Also it wasn't very clear where to go to purchase merchandise but we will do so online. All in all though a beautiful experience and in spite of the seating would come again.

Catherine M — Google review

Beautiful building both internal and external, the stained glass windows create magical light whenever the sun is shining,197 steps up the narrow staircase to the top of the abbey's tower.

This ended up being a bit more out of our way than I thought it would be but well worth the visit, it’s a lovely building with lots of history. The two ladies in the gift shop were super friendly and fun. We had scones and tea in the little cafe which were not exceptional but nice enough and certainly helped douse our hunger. I found the alien gargoyle and its contemporaries most amusing but needed help finding it. I would recommend a visit.

Beautiful abbey, and very quiet and peaceful. Visited with Canadian relatives, and unfortunately could only do this on a day with no guided tours. However, one of the staff ended up spending quite a bit of time with us and my relatives were delighted with all the information he provided. Sorry - can’t remember his name, but he really made their visit (and mine too) a wonderful experience - on Thursday 5th October 2023.

There for my graduation and a huge thank you to the lovely ladies in the shop. I had some extra guests that don’t keep great health and we weren’t sure would manage to get in the service but the staff really looked after them and were so kind and really made my day. Thank you again xx

Castle

Museums

Culzean Castle is an impressive stately home that was designed by Robert Adam and built in the 18th century. This Scottish National Trust flagship property is situated on a cliff top, which provides a dramatic view of its surroundings. The castle boasts a lavish round drawing room and an oval staircase, as well as an orangery, aviary, deer park and Victorian vinery. A smaller-scale recreation of the castle serves as a great play area for children.

Brilliant day out with the kids so much to do and see. The castle is a must full of historic values for both young and old 😊, then you have the walled garden beautiful in its own right and the play areas for all age groups. You don't need to worry about food either the country kitchen has plenty 😉.

Wendy G — Google review

This place is sensational! The childrens play area is epic, even my 13 yr old had fun exploring and using the zip wire. The castle itself is stunning. So much history to soak up. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and very helpful. The secret beach area was the highlight for my children. Felt like our own private secluded beach. You could literally spend all day exploring what this place has to offer. Highly recommend.

Claire T — Google review

A great day out at Culzean Castle. We are national trust members, so we don't need to pay. I highly recommend a day out here. You can visit the gardens, castle, park, walks, gift shop, and cafe.

Julie B — Google review

Fantastic visit. Castles and garden gorgeous, food in cafe great. Very impressed with the ‘hidden Lego figures’ in each room that children had to look for and mark off on their work sheet - really encourages children from very young to teenagers to look around and appreciate what is in the castle. There was a group of very well behaved young children looking around when we were there and it was a pleasure seeing them taking interest in the castle - we even found ourselves looking for the Lego figures!

Wendi O — Google review

First time I visited on my own, after my mum passed away 4 years ago, as I got upset. The staff at the castle were wonderful and caring, never experienced such kindness. The views are lovey. I am a member of the National Trust, so no ticket needed, just showed my membership card.

Leisa W — Google review

Lovely grounds plenty to see walled garden very nice outstanding views from castle , cafe staff not so good need to concentrate on customer and finish serving before walking away and not finishing order we had to ask for our food. Shop just basic tourist stock overpriced £16 for a tea towel

Gloria R — Google review

A lovely visit with the family. Lots to do. Would have liked to know that Monday's over summer there was deer feeding as we might have chosen to come then instead. The treetop play area was brilliant especially, for children of all ages (even those are nearly 40). Beautiful, well maintained property and gardens.

Carol S — Google review

After a stunning country drive, Culzean is a throwback to the past. There is much to offer; the country park and access to the public toilets require entry fees per person. The tour of the castle is just a few more pounds. One could spend hours walking the country park, and a couple more in the castle. The gift shop is accessible without the tour. Parking is simple; it's about a quarter mile from the castle.

Michael M — Google review

Lovely castle and well maintained grounds. Always interesting to walk round the rooms despite having been here 10+ times. Children love the Lego challenge (finding the miniature characters in each room), staff knowledgeable and happy to explain features.Walled garden is nice to walk around, adventure cove a great place for children. Plenty of parking, bear in mind it's a huge estate so be prepared to do a fair bit of walking although there are parking areas in different areas of the grounds. You can easily spend a full day there. We always visit when on holiday in Ayrshire.Admission on its own is quite pricey but worth taking out national trust for Scotland membership as this and a couple of other visits in England would cost more than the membership.

Adrian T — Google review

Amazing castle and grounds. Arrived right before closing time as we knew that parking will be decent as well less busy. Wee shops nearer the pond/playground are closing at 4pm or so but the visit was about refreshing ourselves and enjoy the grounds as well the seaside. There is 1 disable toilet available even after the shops are closed, which is amazing.

We decided to stop by this castle on a whim while on our drive from Cairnryan to Portree, and I am so glad we did. The grounds are very expansive and the castle itself is equally as impressive. Well worth the visit.

Fabulous historic manor house / castle. Lots to see, especially inside the castle. The guided tour was excellent, many thanks to our guide who brought it all to life. After we walked down to the beach for great views of the castle. Well worth the ticket price. We loved it.

Mark P — Google review

A fabulous place to visit, though not cheap to enter.£18 for adults park and castle entry. There are concessions for the elderly . Today was hot and beautiful so we didn't want to be indoors and therefore purchased park tickets only.It is a long but beautiful forest walk from the Castle to the recreational areas like the huge swan pond, the pagoda, the walled garden, the cafe and last the dear park. It took us around 4 hours to see all outdoor attractions with rest stops and light lunch. A very worthwhile day out. Walking is mostly flat and suitable for elderly and disabled people 🤗

It's always great here with lots of things to see and do. There is a fantastic play area down at the Swan pond for all ages of children. The zip line proved popular this time. The deer park was the highlight for the grandkids, that and the Lamas. The food in the cafe was good as usual and had a wide range of choices on the menu. We all enjoyed the walks, though the ground and the castle itself. A great day out.

Outdoor Activities

Trump Turnberry, a luxury resort on the Ayrshire Coast in Scotland, features championship golf with stunning views across the Irish Sea and an ESPA spa. The resort also has two golf courses and an academy.

Absolutely stunning hotel, beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate every aspect of the hotel from room, bathroom, corridors and eating places and leisure facilities are pristine, light and airy. Has to be one of the nicest hotels in Scotland (speaking from experience). Give it a try you will not be disappointed!

Trump Turnberry is the stuff of dreams. Nothing is too much hassle to the staff. The rooms are great. The views are out of this world. Golf..... Top tier 💚👌🏻

Fabulous. Stunning . Stayed for one night in one of the Villas on Saturday 6/7/19. Best customer service we've ever experienced. Staff could not have been more helpful or friendly especially the breakfast team who served us (and our dogs!) breakfast on the terrace on the Sunday. Truly a five star experience.

John S — Google review

Enjoyed Spa area and especially treatments by Alice-very professional. Was totally relaxed by the end of it. We then had a two course lunch in dining/bar area which was pleasant although slightly spoiled by very slow service on part of the kitchen. The senior staff attending our table were quite exceptional and very good at their job. Would return.

Diane C — Google review

Never been in a finer setting. The food and service was first class and really polte and lovely staff. Will defenitely be back again. Keep up the good work folks.

We had a beautiful stay.Staff exceptional particularly the welcome & the staff at breakfast . Breakfast is delicious and so was the fish and chips in the club house. I feel the food in the main building could do with a little change the steak was very tough and the soup and afternoon tea were nice but not to the Standard we expected.

Lisa B — Google review

Excellent.!!! Took my dog for the first time. He was made a fuss off and so welcome. Staff were excellent especially at dinner and breakfast. Could not do enough for you. So friendly and paid alot of attention to detail . Food could not fault it. Stayed and had lunch there many times before. They have raised the bar to a very high standard. Well done Turnberry.!!! Can't wait for another weekend. Happy Customer.

I recently indulged in the Turnberry Signature Ritual - Signature Massage, and it was an experience beyond words. From the moment I stepped into the serene oasis of the spa, I knew I was in for a treat. The Signature Massage itself was nothing short of heavenly.Under the skilled hands of my therapist, Kaya, every knot and tension in my muscles melted away. Kaya's intuition and expertise were evident as she tailored the massage to my specific needs, applying just the right amount of pressure to release deep-seated muscle tension. Her use of the Copper Kansa Wand was pure magic, soothing both my body and mind with its gentle, rhythmic motions. What truly set this experience apart was Kaya's thoughtful touch beyond the physical. She guided me through a meditation at the beginning and end of the massage, helping me to fully unwind and then gently bringing me back to the present moment. It was a journey of relaxation and rejuvenation unlike any other.I left the spa feeling utterly rejuvenated, with a sense of calm that lingered long after the massage ended. If you're looking for a transcendent spa experience, I wholeheartedly recommend booking a session with Kaya. Her expertise, warmth, and genuine care elevate the Signature Massage to a whole new level of bliss.

I had a spa day, which included a facial and a massage. The spa was lovely with a great view overlooking the golf course and the sea beyond.I had a facial and massage from Kaya who was excellent. My neck had been a bit strained recently and after the massage it was as if it was never there !! Really relaxing. Kaya was excellent at her job and highy professional.

Beautiful place to visit. Hotel is out of this world. We went the the Trump lighthouse had a coffee. Sat in the sun very pretty views.

Amanda B — Google review

Staying in one of the lodge cottages was a real privilege. Incredible comfort and quality. Service at the hotel was second to none. The spa is exquisite and the golf course, well... words simply don't describe how incredibly special the whole place and experience is. Can't recommend Trump Turnberry enough. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful Spa day and afternoon tea. Very relaxing, very tasty, all in sumptuous surroundings

Kevin H — Google review

Great stay in a villa, which had twin beds, with a bath and a shower, big TV with Sky Sports available. Service is brilliant and the breakfast caters for all tastes and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, overall a great experience and would recommend it for a special weekend. I didn't use the Spa but we did go down for a tour and it looks fab.

The best hotel I’ve ever stayed In to date. I’ve stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels but this is probably the first time (in Europe) I’ve left with absolutely no issues. The facilities are brilliant but the staff make it. There is almost nothing they won’t do to accommodate you. So friendly. The spa is great, always quiet, the hot tub is actually hot, there is no hidden costs, like a lot of hotels. The golf course (Bruce) is probably the best ‘book and walk on’ course in Scotland. Stunning views on some holes that play across the Sea. Very challenging. All in all. What a hotel. Will be back most certainly.

Stu P — Google review

Definitely a 5 star experience stunning rooms, fabulous service and amazing food, plus a location which even in foul awful Scottish winter weather has the most stunning view. Its definitely worth the 20 min walk to,the lighthouse for a snack and a coffee

Ian A — Google review

Nothing to fault here. Golfed with a squad of 16 players. Stayed in the lodges overnight, which were very comfortable, clean and tidy. Ate in the hotel at night, and although very pricey (as expected) the food and service was fantastic. Breakfast in the morning was also first class. Golf course was tough, but manageable for all handicaps, and the scenic holes by the lighthouse made it all worthwhile. The good score helped also!! Many thanks again. See you next time. Tony

Specialty Museums

Located in Irvine, a coastal town, the Scottish Maritime Museum showcases the region's maritime industry through historic boats, artifacts, and art. The museum boasts an impressive collection of ships and boats which include models as well as real vessels. Visitors can enjoy interactive displays that offer plenty to see and do. Friendly staff ensure visitors have a full experience that includes keeping up-to-date with upcoming events such as a festival during summer. Admission prices are reasonable with up to 3 children allowed free entry per paying adult.

What a wonderful experience visiting the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine Ayrshire Scotland.Very good collection of various historical ships, boats, equipment and memorabilia with good descriptions of what each piece was for.Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and we were lucky enough to get a tour of the workshop to see what the exceptional crafts people do to restore and build all of the wonderful boats ships and other equipment.I would definitely recommend visiting this remarkable museum.

Martin E — Google review

A stunning building, in a great location, overlooked by many passing tourists. Some may find the displays very niche, but we visited on a special exhibition day, so there were many extra attractions and visiting exhibitors. My 7 year old especially liked the large scale models of the ships and boats, and external boat displays.Staff were friendly and attentive, and parking was free. The nearby Puffers cafe is especially worth a visit, but I'll review that separately.

John R — Google review

This is an excellent museum and even the building has a fascinating history! The staff are really welcoming and knowledgeable. There's also a great café and gift shop. There's plenty for children as well as adults to learn and enjoy.

Kathryn M — Google review

We spent a few hours here on a Wednesday morning, so it was quiet.Staff were really friendly and told our little boy about the challenge of finding certain objects in the museum as well as the cat and rat quest. Our little boy found all the items needed and was allowed a couple of stickers and a certificate, which he was buzzing about. The main cafe is a short walk down the road, but there are light refreshments at this venue such as cold drinks, teas/coffees, and sweets/crisps.There's a small children's activity space near the front too with stuff for under 5s such as colouring in, train tracks, boats and games etc.All in all, a great few hours spent walking around the museum and around it looking at the 3 ships in the car park, the lifeboats inside, thr engines and displays. It was great for our 6 year old.

John J — Google review

Took my family on the weekend that kicked off the monsters of the deep exhibit. Wonderful time had by all of us. The mermaids were truly magical to my 5 year old grand daughter. Lots and lots to see and do. Was well worth our trip over from Bute.

Hazel M — Google review

An interesting history of shipbuilding and maritime activities in Scotland with a variety of exhibits. There are interactive stands and quite a few things to do for younger ones. Also, there is a seating area available and snacks and drinks can be purchased. Parking is easy in and around the museum which has toilet facilities as well.

David B — Google review

Modest collection of maritime objects and boats, plus some heavy duty ship building machinery. Well labelled to explain them all. One for the cognoscenti, but great to see a Puffer, if you are old enough to remember the BBC's The Vital Spark comedy. Stuff for kids to do too.

Hudson F — Google review

Excellent museum with a wide collection, lots of interesting information.I especially loved all the interactive exhibits such as the sail boat with the winch game and the gears on the wall.Overall a very beautiful space with an artistic touch. The building itself was bright and airy, and the Spartan is a gem! I very much enjoyed the infographics inside the ship, especially the one showing the ratio of cargo: crew: engine. There is also a cafe and a water machine.

M Y — Google review

🚢 What a wonderfully rich museum and exhibition space with so much going on! Where to start!?The staff were so friendly and welcoming they went out of their way to make my experience special in every way at every step of my visit. 🌟The building itself is a beautiful glass roofed brick building that was reconstructed brick by brick from an older shipyard. The space breathes with life and light, it’s not a dusty old space like some museums. The model boats are artworks in their own right! I loved reading about the history of the boats on the Clyde and beyond and being able to interact with the various exhibits about the maritime history of Scotland. So many little nuggets of information to spend hours here. The Enormous engines and pistons reminiscent of Miyazakis Howls Moving Castle make the exhibits as exhilarating to children as they would be to my nostalgic grandparents from the islands.I came for a glassblowing flameworking experience with Robert McLeod and learned so much. I came away awe inspired with a greater appreciation for the skill that goes into making scientific glass, that will never leave me. 🧪They have so many events on and It’s only 35 mins from Glasgow! This museum and the people gave me the most unforgettable experience. Maybe yours too! 🤩

Great to preserve our shipbuilding heritage.Loved Puffers cafe, excellent location, good food and happy staff.Looking forward to a return visit.

An amazing collection of boats and yachts with videos of how Scottish Maritime dismantled this massive building in Clydebank and brought it down to Irvine. I was the first Labourer on the job back in 1990 and helped sort out the roof trusses, then repair them one by one. It was my first time back at the site, and it was amazing to eventually see it all completed. I would recommend it to anyone.

Kenny M — Google review

Fantastic museum to learn about Scottish maritime history! It's not just all boats, but there's aspects of engineering & design, actual history & how waterways were important to Scottish people, bits about the Navy & RNLI. It's educational and fun. And for those wondering if they are disability friendly, yes they are, to an extent. When we went the automatic doors weren't working, but that's not a big deal. Plenty of space for wheelchair manoeuvring & toilets available. The only slight problem is the wee café, there's a bit of a steep slope to get in, but overall this is a place where when they say they're wheelchair friendly they mean it.

Jo S — Google review

We spent a lovely few hours visiting the Scottish Maritime Museum. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Great displays and information boards telling you about the history of ship building. There are even fun interesting interactive displays along the way. Great place to bring children as they have things to find and mark off on a fact sheet, as well as a designated area with colouring, dressing up etc. There are toilets in the building and a seating area where you can get snacks, tea, coffee and cold drinks. Across the road is the Maritime Museum shop and cafe 'Puffers' which serves everything from cakes, light meals , burgers, hotdogs, pasta and specials. Both are well worth a visit!

Barbara B — Google review

Interesting museum! Activities for young people. Beautiful quiet space for picnicking or purchase a delicious coffee. It's our nautical heritage! Wonderful. Staff friendly and communicative. Look on their website for upcoming events. Just love it.

Elizabeth C — Google review

I visited for the first time today and I was not disappointed. The building its self is amazing and full of amazing exhibits. I had the best time looking round the amazing boats and reading about their fascinating history, seeing the different and what they were for. The staff could not of been nicer, part of my ticket included a tour of the fitting shed and the 1920s flat which was out of this world, I was the only one on the tour and my tour guide who’s name I didn’t catch was brilliant and I can’t thank him enough for the tour, it was great fun, he also recommended visiting Dragon hill as it was such a nice day, not part of the museum but well worth a visit for the most spectacular views. Will 100% be back

Ashlie C — Google review

22/4/23 was a free day. I had a great time looking at all the exhibits and the tour of the boat building was excellent. Check website for prices for normal days. But a very good day with friendly staff.

Billy H — Google review

Great place to visit with interesting stories about the people of the area responsible for the build. Very nice items on display. Was very interesting to see a jet engine there even.If you are in the area and can spare the £9 it's not a bad place to visit. You can spend about and hour or two and see all they have to offer. Ensure to play the games even if you are not a kid because you can learn some good principles even as an adult.Make sure to try inserting the "hot" rivets into the steel sheeting to remind yourself how difficult the work back then used to be.

Nystrom E — Google review

A brilliant experience and quiet during peak times! Lovely staff and beautiful exhibits with captivating and spectacular history of the maritime life of West scotland (and beyond)

Mayfly A — Google review

Very interesting, wasn't alot of people when I went. Outside could do with some more attention. Overall had a good time, especially liked the model boat building video.

Park

Nature & Parks

Eglinton Country Park is a picturesque destination featuring castle ruins and 400 acres of sprawling grounds, offering various recreational activities such as camping, fishing, and more. The park provides an extensive network of paths and bridleways suitable for leisurely strolls, horseback riding, or cycling. Families can enjoy the wheelchair-friendly play area while the ranger service organizes engaging wildlife and nature-themed events throughout the year.

Nice open space, walks are well maintained. Play parks are in good condition, ideal for most ages and easily accessible. Cafe is small but pleasent, prices are reasonable.

Cameron B — Google review

It's big. Plenty of space to wander around and signs explaining the local floraabd fauna are good for children.Excellent cafe, but we found no visitor information centre where mobility scooters and trikes are supposed to be available. The paths we found need some maintenance, but on a good day, it's one of the best places.

Joe B — Google review

First time there about 1600. Plenty of parking spaces. My partner has a mobility scooter, a bit rough in places but a pleasant park. Only drawback was at 1700, I needed the toilet, but all were shut. Plenty of notices to say the times of shutting but just my luck that I was outside the time. Had to cut park time short.

Billy H — Google review

Beautiful country park with free parking. Great play park for the kids and a lovely walk and old castles ruins to explore. The cafe on site is also good with friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Emily T — Google review

Lovely place for a peaceful walk with the dog. Lots of paths, beautiful bridges and really nice castle ruins to photograph.

Aleksa A — Google review

Plenty of difference trails to walk from 1 mile long to 5 miles long, mobility scooters and other accessible equipment can be borrowed for 1hr upto 3 hours on weekdays, a great day out for all the family, free public toilets and a cafe on site. If you have little ones why not try the STEM trail out.

Ebony R — Google review

Lovely rambling park with sweeping paths, forest walks, sprawling lawns and space for all ages and pursuits. Loved the stick statues and info boards studded about.

Alison W — Google review

I came here for a dog walk and it was lovely. There are so many paths and it's very well maintained. There's lots of space for dogs to exercise and some things for you to see too. Plenty of parking. I didn't visit the café but it's worth noting there's one there!

Eilidh B — Google review

This place was amazing, a great outdoor day out for the whole family!

Nadine K — Google review

Brilliant country park with a ruined castle at it's heart. Ample parking and a lovely cafe serving (among other things) delicious smoothies. The walk from the visitors centre to the castle, over the river via a pretty bridge and back again over an even prettier one was easy, accessible, and well sign posted.Although the castle is a ruin, there's plenty to explore and the layout is still clear to see.The play park is a real gem, I've never seen one with such a variety of equipment! Will definitely visit again if we're in the area.

Becca R — Google review

Beautiful park with a lovely river. Great signposted walks and information boards along the paths. Will be back.

Astracash S — Google review

The park run on Saturday morning is fantastic. So welcoming and well organised.Park is also great for dog walking .

Ed H — Google review

Great place for everyone, paths are wide and the café is nice and reasonably priced for once you have had a good explore. Play park for the kids is always busy, but is large enough to accommodate.

Stuart F — Google review

Lovely Country park. Multiple routes that range from a simple 45 min walk - 2 hours. Lots of dog walkers and runners in the paths. Good for trail running. Can enjoy the castle ruins & the visitor centre too.

Lucie C — Google review

Lots to see and explore, frogs, dragonflies up close and plenty of space to run around and burn off steam for dogs and children alike

S W — Google review

Lovely big park in with plenty to do. There is a reasonable priced cafe, clean toilets, 2 big play parks for the kids and lots of lovely walks with picnic areas and benches dotted along the way.

Lee M — Google review

Great wee park for a walk and interesting to see the castle and learn about some of the history about it online and who owned it etc.

Stephen T — Google review

Came here with my husband, son and rescue dog for a walk whilst we were staying up in Scotland. Different trails to follow depending on how long you want to walk for. Lovely little cafe which we bought coffee and cakes which we took away but you can also eat inside too. There's also ladies and gents toilets which were clean.

Roma T — Google review

It would have been 5 stars because I had a lovely walk around this beautiful, well kept estate but I was on my own with my dog and couldn't go inside the cafe to order anything to eat at the seating area outside. I asked at the hatch but staff were exceptionally busy and didn't answer me. I would definitely take a picnic next time and stay longer.
